Now let's ban fishing!!

from Teresa Thom

I had the considerable displeasure of witnessing an act of great cruelty on a visit to a popular fishing spot near your offices on Saturday.

A group of people were engaged in a fishing match.

I could not believe that this hideous and grotesquely cruel practise is still permitted under British law.

Now that we are banning hunting with dogsin this country I am sure that we must ban this evil practise as soon as possible.

Please tell your readers that if they ever see this evil practise they are to approach the fishermen and women and tell them to stop.

I shall be returning to your area at the end of the month and looking for people who will support a ban on fishing.

Enough said??????????????????????

I was fishing in Sutton Park nr Birmingham with my 7yr old lad 2 weeks ago. A middle aged bloke came up, snatched my lads rod out of his hand and through it in the lake, saying "that's f..ing serves you right, sonny." He then realised I was his father, gave me a mouthful about teaching my son to be cruel to animals, and ran off.

What do you do? If my son weren't there I would have chased him andlaid into him... but that would have set a bad example to my lad. He was in tears and frightened by the whole experience.

I fished his rod out of the water and took him home. Fortuneately, he still wishes to go fishing, and has been subsequently, but not to Sutton Park.

I noticed this guy snatched the rod from a 7 yr old lad, not any of the adults who were fishing.

Sad, misguided t*****s looking for some justification for their pathetic lives.

Picking on a 7yr old sums them up really

Perhaps someone should point out to this lady and others like her that if these "evil practices" ( hunting with dogs, and fishing) are banned then the hunters and fishers will still remain "evil practitioners" but with nothing to do.

So they might well take up some other "evil practice"........like witch-burning? :P

Call me cynical, but the above letter doesn't ring true.

I mean, she comes from west London and will be going back to (Cambridge I presume) to gather more troops.

Hhmmmm, sounds like she's from some sort of organisation or something, not just some 'member of the public'!!

On another note, let's stop 'beating our chests' on forums like these.

Things like, "if he did this, then I'd do that" puts us in a bad light.

PLEASE REPLY TO THIS THREAD IN A CONSTRUCTIVE MANNER OR IT WILL BE CLOSED

Gaffer,

Totally agree.

We're fishermen....don't we recognise bait when it's put in front of our noses? They want us to come across as thugs - it makes their 'fight' easier.

My thoughts as well, hence why I posted the letter. Do we have any means of finding out whether any organisations have an address as quoted or am I being naive??

Thanks for the comments re. a constructive manner, I felt as if the positive posting was being hi-jacked.
