I prefer a palomar to any other I've tried. Better than most and simpler to tie than the couple others that are good with braid.

Knot strength is almost identical to line strength.

phonebush:

BTW a polomer is an overhand knot.

Err, a Palomar Knot and an Overhand Knot are two different things.

Zappagod, what are you tieing, braid to hook, braid to mono, braid to braid, braid to Leadcore, braid to swivel, etc, etc??

Some time ago I posted a note in which I said that braided lines were thicker than monofil lines. As someone pointed out, I was well out of date on that one. I have recently bought some "SpiderLine Fusion" and can't believe how thin it is for it's strength. I know that the grinner knot is good for tying to swivels and hooks etc. My favourite knot for tying loops is the figure of eight knot. Is that a good one for braided lines?

The manufacturers often recommend on the packaging/box/spool which is the best knot to use with their braid.

Failing that, from test results that I've seen, Palomar and Grinner knots seem to be among the best for true braids. I haven't seen any data for fusion lines which aren't true braids, but I can't image that Palomar and/or Grinner knots wouldn't be just as good for them (fusion lines) as for true braids

Chevin, "tie it and test it" Golden rule with knots. I think you may get a nasty surprise with the Figure of eight and braid.

The best way I have found to join braid to braid, or braid to nylon is via a swivel or small ring. I find that passing thro the eye/ring twice and then a four turn blood is pretty good when there is plenty of margin for strength.

After all that is the whole point of using braid isn't it.
