Dear All,

In my opinion, Brian Clarke the Times-On-Line fishing correspondent echoed a lot of peoples concern's regarding the way forward now for the ACA.

The ACA relies 100% on money raised by its membership or "clients" if that is the correct descriptive? This funding not only comes via membership renewal's, but by many fund raising event's and regular fixtures like the "racing" tickets that get sent out to members for sale. All such ACA fund raising events are badly needed in order to keep the ACA wheels going. But the whole ethos behind such fund raising events and ideas relies totally on what?? CONFIDENCE.

Membership Confidence are the keywords for the ACA's survival and it's moving forward.

ACA members must be confident that the organisation is being run properly. Otherwise, a great deal of steam will be taken out of member’s enthusiasm on the fund raising side. Many might well resign or refuse to re-subscribe next time around because of this affair. OK I admit that ACA diehards might not change their stance towards the ACA but I do feel that they might be in a minority now.

My earnest hope is that the promised letters supposed to be sent out to ACA members covering this issue contain clear and concise details of exactly what’s gone off. Skirting around the issue or keeping exact details of the severance terms confidential just won't cut the cake for me at any rate. I seriously doubt it will cut the cake for many others as well because a lot of people have spent years and years raising money for the ACA. Will their tremendous efforts now be rewarded by a total blackout of information on how much of their raised money has been spent on severance terms and why?? Fair enough if this was a case of a commercial company handing out severance pay but this is an entirely different matter. Surely we are talking about the memberships money here??

I also think it’s high time that the ACA started to be clear about the way it regards its own members (clients?). Like for example;

If the ACA membership can't attend AGM's THEN LET THEM SAY SO.

If the ACA membership retains no voting rights THEN LET THEM SAY SO.

If the ACA membership is denied yearly detailed financial reports THEN LET THEM SAY SO.

If the ACA membership have no say in who gets voted into office THEN LET THEM SAY SO.

Let them also state the actual reasons behind any membership entitlement denial's also. The truth is the truth after all.

And please, let such membership entitlements either way be included in the new-member or recruitment packages so every one is crystal clear from the outset?

Aside from all that, my own heart now hangs heavy as I've lost confidence in the ACA even though I remain passionate about watery environments and their protection.

And from my perspective, it’s up to the ACA now to restore my confidence.

Regards,

Lee.

Graham Marsden, on Fishing Magic, suggests that a £75,000.00 severance payment was made to the James. That being the case I am resigning! Never thought I'd say that but £75 'king K and for what? Its worth nipping over to the Fishing Magic forum just to read the ACA thread. £75k! Incredible

Quote Trent Barbeller.

"Aside from all that, my own heart now hangs heavy as I've lost confidence in the ACA even though I remain passionate about watery environments and their protection."

You could always consider starting something up Lee?

We need an ACA Graham, and I firmly believe that Lee has the ability. But should the ACA go to the wall, which is unlikely, I reckon a specialised department within such as the SAA or NAA would be a better route.

With Bob James the ACA certainly had somebody charismatic. They haven't now. And if the report of £75k compensation is accurate, the battle won by the mediocre nobosies has been very costly for angling in general, the ACA in particular.

And if the ACA loses Chris Tarrant as president in the process, then what next?

Yes, the inadequate, inconsequential angling politicians have "won" again.

But at what cost?

As for accuracy of the astounding £75K, we can only surmise. But Graham Marsden is a respected angler, one whose circle of contacts and friends includes people who are likely to know.

If the ACA had hoped to keep this monumental blunder under wraps then I think they are in for a rude awakening. There are good, decent individuals within the ACA who will be as concerned as I am at the aledged settlement. As Fenboy has said, a damaging and costly amount for angling.

as to bringing these kinds of benefits of membership under the banner of the NAA or SAA, i think that some law firms would be prepared to look at a retainer of similar sums to what the ACA membership is, if some sought of pooling of rescources via such a group, could be achieved.
