A new way to hair rig luncheon meat.

Recommended Posts

My Son in his spare time decided to try to find a way to keep his luncheon meat bait on the hook longer.

Luncheon meat is soft and if you are in a fast current it is easy for it to come off.

There are many ways of hooking meat but I think my 13 year old Son has come up with an original.

Take a look and tell me what you think?

Personally, I think it is a great way to ensure perfect presentation.

As you say, meat is a soft bait so there's no real advantage in using a hair rig at all.

Quite the reverse.

If you want a big chunk of luncheon meat on a big hook, no need to hair-rig at all - just cut into 1" squares a quarter-inch thick. Thread a square onto the hook and slide up the shank. Put on half a dozen, one at a time and you have a big chunk with minimum hassle that will stay on the hook better than with most methods

I usually just hook it on myself Dave but I push the hook through turn it round then put a bit of grass stem or a hawthorn spike under the bend of the hook to hold it on.

Bootlaces are one reason i often put meat on a hair.

Good going for the 13 year old...Come on guys and girls it was for the lad a fine example of thinking about a problem and coming up with a solution, whether it is better than what some use or not does not matter 10 out of 10 for effort.

Perhaps when he reads through all your comments and then searches for attachment methods for luncheon meat then puts the whole lot together and his dad tests it against each method in turn and makes notes he will come up with a better solution for something which many on here have moaned about.

As for me I will still use the same old method I have used for about 50 years. No, don't think I will tell you its too old fashioned and a long way from current thinking...hehehe...but some say I am crazy...hehehe...however I am hopeful of words of wisdom coming from the mouths of babes.

All,

I agree 100% with Toady. I know no one was "putting down" his suggestion but in two dimensions you should say that first. Especially when you know you're dealing with a young impressionable angler
