You can tell people your secret bait but chances are they will not believe you and think you are feeding them miss information. I had a good day at Bury Hill and was catching a few zeds after discovering a bait that works well for Zander at Bury Hill while Pike fishing. I had landed and returned another nice Zander when a couple of guys came over and commented that I had caught another good one. They looked the part as top specimen anglers PAC badges etc and asked what bait I was using, when I said Mackeral they both laughed and one informed me that Zander do not and will not take sea baits and that's a fact mate. Apparently he has been a member at Bury Hill for donkeys years and targets the Pike on sea baits and uses Mackeral a lot and has never had a Zed on it.

I was too polite to ask had he ever had a Pike at Bury Hill on sea baits :D

Im same as Den I simply no longer have "secret baits" So what ever Im using anyones more than welcome to know.I rely believe (to an extent) that bait isnt that important.
And thats my "non indicative opinion"!

BUDGIE,

Sometimes I use secret baits that I can't share with others. I couldn't remember in a thousand years what I've combined into a paste to catch carp.

I'm trying to cut back, but I have to agree with Budgie again

Bait matters, but it's usually such a small percentage of why someone is catching. If someone's doing well I won't be able to replicate that success simply by using the same bait as them.

I gotta say that i see the odd programme were the carp angler turns his back while putting in his secret potion while the presenter says 'Some carp anglers hide their secret potions from others and will even mix it up in the bivvy so those with bino's can't see'

My Gay radar warning system was going off with this Angler. I thought this angler probably sits all day with dellusions of grandeur.

Whitebait are sea fish and so would be very unlikely to be picked up by perch. Indeed, I tried for a whole season without success to get a perch to take whitebait on another similar water. I caught plenty of chub and carp there too!

Neither of these waters contained pike, so they were no problem. They might be elsewhere, although few commercials (for which I particularly recommended whitebait) contain pike.

For more on whitebait for variety of species see this article of mine: http://www.anglersne...._for_chub.html

Interesting article steve. I can see the attraction of whitebait to Chub. I think chub are the cod of sea water that they will eat most food. A trotting white bait downstream is worth it for chub or prtch i think.

theres a great tradition that despite carrying every bait you can think off the chap in the swim next door with constant catching will have one you dont ....and you can bet by the time you do the fish will prefer the one you thought of but didnt buy
