What scares you when night fishing?

A bunch of teenagers throwing rocks at me and my friends from across the lake like what happened last time I went night fishing.

Not been night fishing yet but after looking up night fishing at the local boating lake googles first hit was on a "cruising site" (not the car variety) talking about the place as the best place in the area for night activities. I dunno if it counts but its scared me out of night fishing there

I have been discussing what scares us when doing nights with my mate. All sorts of silly things came up including: Ghosts ghost , people, satan demon , rabbits, panthers, lions, tigers, gypsys, murderers  , thieves, tramps alsorts!

However none of these bother me, what does it for me is ........................ RATS!

I am terrified of them! It has affected my 25 years of Carping, it really has. I would love to fish certain waters and fish under my brolly for ease of moving onto fish but i cant, i have to completeley block any gap in my bivvy, i zip up completeley at night, again affecting my fishing. I go to france a couple of times a year but the first thing i ask is "have ya got rats?" If they have I dont go there!(Not that they would tell me when they have!)Bizzareley enough Coypu dont bother me whatso ever!

I always have a radio on at night so i cant here the evil creatures outside and if i do i up and leave doesnt matter what time it is!

If i get a run in the night i rattle the bivvy first and then run out stomping and shouting! Bad or what? My dad thinks it goes back to a time when he was pulling an old chicken coup down on our small holding (I was 7) and there was a nest underneath, they scattred and one run up my leg squeeling, i was hysterical and never recovered from my fear.

I need a shrink! It never stops me going though, i just endure the terror of darkness every night! And as I said i choose venues wiseley, not easy as most have RATS! Ahhhhhhhhhhh!

Anyone else share a fear of rats?

Rats i bloody hate them! :(

i was fishing once on my local lake at night and i had a feeling i was beiong watched so i switched my headlamp on and looked to my right and about 5 dfeet away sittin on a log looking at me was a massive rat .. made me jump outta the chair lol

I havent been night fishing before, after this post i dont think i ever will!

Which species do people normally go for when night fishing? Ive heard of night fishing for bream, carp, eels and pike but for instance i can't imagine you'd go night fishing for roach or dace somehow :) I might be wrong however, i should look it up :D

As famous fisherman John Gierach once said "I used to like fishing because I thought it had some larger significance. Now I like fishing because it's the one thing I can think of that probably doesn't."

:D Haven't actually read the whole thread but I'm guessing that most things that scare us in the night are completely harmless. The only thing you really have to worry about are other people and falling in! I was told recently that my new syndicate lake is haunted, that might explain why hardly anyone seems to night fish it. Suits me though, I haven't heard of any people getting hurt by ghosts so I'm not worried. May leave an extra cup of hot chocolate out next night session for the lady in a white dressing gown. Could bring me some luck!

Yeh when i get a spare ten minutes i will look through the whole post at all the stories! My local club water doesn't specify whether night fishing is allowed or not, on this basis i don't see why not but i will only try it in the warm weather, it's too damn cold at this time of year! What do you mainly target when nightfishing?

Its the best time to catch the biggest of whatever species are in the lake , i love using a starlight that makes the tip of the float glow and theres nothing like seeing that glow dissapear under the water because you just know its gonna be a big fish , ive had some cracking tench in the past and on two occasions had the lakes biggest out. Also big bream come out at night

The other great thing at night is the fish normally come in close to the bank so you can fish nice and tight close in

All of my largest barbel have come in the first few hours of darkness and there is something magical about sitting behind the rods with two starlights waving around above me. Then one of them swings lower than the other and the fight is on. I love it. Roll on summer.
