Long standing RSPB member and wildlife film maker Hugh Miles, star of 'Passion for Angling' and Angling Trust Ambassador has hit back at an inflammatory article in a recent edition of the RSPB member's magazine 'Birds' which accuses anglers of being motivated solely by hate in our attempts to control excessive cormorant predation. The author, Simon Barnes, says that anglers exaggerate the amount of fish that cormorants consume and the damage they do to fisheries and other wildlife.

All,

FWIW we are not without a cormorant problem. May I suggest a look at this site. IMO it may give a perspective (both favorable and unfavorable) to an issue that seems to have as much passion as fact in the UK.

This is the same RSPB that employs contractors to shoot foxes and trap magpies and crows on the Somerset Levels with a condition in the contract that all evidence is destroyed so as not to upset those who might donate money in their wills. This is the same RSPB that wants to encourage bitterns to nest on the ground at Radipole Lake, Weymouth, but has constructed an artificial otter holt on the same reserve.
