First Bass

Managed to get out on the yak for the first time in ages tonight and also had a first for me - A bass on a plug. I headed out at tea time to a place id fancied for some time a little mark just south of Whitby. I tied on one of my new Yo Zuri Crystal minnows and let it drift off the back of the yak.

After what seemed and age of trolling about and thinking I would never get one, over went the rod and the rachet was screaming (those bass hit like a steem train).

After a few moments playing the fish it came into view, obviously it didn't like the site of me looking down at it and off it went again like a steam train. I finally managed to land it onto the yak. Now for the difficult bit, unhooking the bugger. what a job to get all the hooks out of the damn thing, every single hook of the 2 trebbles were somewhere in the fish. Cut my fingers to bits but it was well worth it. A new experience for me and one I wont forget in a long time.

Weighed the fish at home. Not a massive fish by any accounts but a respectable 1 pounds 8 ounce school bass. The fish is nicely stowed in the fridge and ready for tomorrows tea.

Congrats, Glenn.

When you get into bass that size, they're plentiful and will hit any lure.

I'm (hopefully!) out on Monday after some - we'll let you know how it goes!

Tomorrow night (today!), it's soles of the beach :)

Vlad,

It would have looked better if the bass was covering his face more :D

Glenn - get down here on Monday. I'm crossing my fingers for a few bigger ones. They should cover your face :D

Managed another a bit bigger last night, possibly around the 3 pound mark. I ate the first one and to be honest I dont know what all the fuss is about. Give me a nice cod anyday. I think all future bass will be going back unless any friends specifically ask for one.

Very bland eating.
