No you are off target, tell me what benefit is this going to achieve? Remembering of course that this is e u led. Are you also intimating that there isn't enough management in place to do something about any short falls, and tell us where you think an immediate improvement in the stock can come from if the needs require, without going down the route of additional legislation that will not be fit for purpose.

EU funded perhaps, but not controlled by the EU. Immediate improvements are not possible; steady improvements are what we are looking for. The idea of these projects is to gain knowledge.

Tells us more about your bass fishing and the stipulations you demand of your clients.

ohh yes I actually agree with you, from top down anything with the e u written into it is a waste of taxpayers money, achieves nothing and improvements, forget it. All it is, is a waste paper exercise. The e u where looking for bass counts within the south west last year and the year before, purely political that one because of argument between the Irish and other e u countries fighting over the same bass stock.

Immediate improvements are not possible, correct again, 30 years it's been controlled and regulated by the e u, so I don't agree on that bit. Yet what have they actually achieved, nothing a failed cfp, that they have allegedly fixed and it will take another 30 years to find out if that one will work. yup a huge paper shuffling exercise.

Now at the other end of the chain we have a uni being paid e u tax payers money to find out yet more info on the same breading stock, however in this instance there is already a plan by the hangers on to twiddle around the edges, salivating at the thought that it will bring in their ideal of management that in the end will not achieve diddly squatt apart from affect local sea fishing and angling communities with pointless legislation that as the above will not be fit for purpose.

Now my bassing is fine, every year when it's time I go out and catch them and enjoy them weather it's to take them home or set them free, free from the pointless and worthless legislation that this study is hoped to bring. Off in a few minutes time, so hopefully there's enough here for you to enjoy. If the uni wants info re bass captures, look at even the BASS web site and many others throughout the uk, tons of reports each as every year on rsa captures, why can't they use that info? And will that be sufficient to decide that management needs to change for the worse and more regulation needed because at present the industry already have 3 tiers of management that no other industry has to put up with, yet according to some it ain't good enough.

as for my clients, they have nothing to do with fishing, never have and nothing to do with you, so I won't be discussing them here.

Free to choose apart from the ones where the trust poked their nose in. Common eel. tope. Bass and sea bream. All restricted.

New for 2016 TAT are the main instigators for the demise of the u k bass charter boat industry, where they went screaming off to parliament and for the first time assisting so called angling gurus set up bass take bans with the e u using rubbish exaggerated info collected by ices from anglers, they must be very proud.

Upgrade, the door has been closed with regards to anglers being linked to the e u superstate and the failed c f p. So TAT will no longer need to pay monies to the EAA anymore as that org is no longer relevant to the u k . Goodbye to the europeon anglers alliance and pathetic restrictions from the e u.

Angling is better than politics, ban politics from angling.

Consumer of bass. where is the evidence that the u k bass stock need angling trust protection. Why won't you work with your peers instead of castigating them. They have the answer.

Recipie's for mullet stew more than welcomed.

Angling sanitation trust and kent and sussex sea anglers org delete's and blocks rsa's alternative opinion on their face book site. Although they claim to rep all.

new for 2014. where is the evidence that the south coast bream stock need the angling trust? Your campaign has no evidence. Why won't you work with your peers, the inshore under tens? As opposed to alienating them? Angling trust failed big time re bait digging, even fish legal attempted to intervene and failed, all for what, nothing.

Looks like the sea angling reps have been coerced by the ifca's to compose sea angling strategy's that the ifca's at some stage will look at drafting into legislation to manage the rsa, because they like wasting tax payers money. That's without asking the rsa btw. You know who you are..

bluedun,

Your quote: """"Incidentally, the EU funds all kinds of research, not just on fisheries. Is the whole lot a waste of money in your eyes?""""

Ha ha, could I answer that as a % of the economy for those of us on the other side of the penny? ($95 billion on medical research alone).

quote you:

Nothing personal at all, nor am I making assumptions.

Well the above is totally untrue or are you so warped that you fail to notice that anything you state regarding myself is either an assumption or personal. go check you last dozen or so posts following in reply to mine, nothing of use or consequence has been added by yourself apart from assumption, non facts and personals, just what do you have that is of any use to anglers net?

Get back on topic and tell us what has the e u done for our fish stocks that have been positive, answer that one.

Thanks to all who completed the questionnaires and sorry for not being a regular visitor and missing the previous posts.

The responses to questions, which I would of thought Barry had already seen, provide a rubuttal to his previous posts, hence I will say no more on the subject and let readers critically appriase the our statement and answers (posted on WSF) here. This is hosted on my webspace as the original posts requires WSF membership to view.

The diary and Welsh sustainable fisheries project feedback surveys have 61 and 31 respondents respectively. Though these will be closing at the end of this week, the sustainable fisheries project as a whole is still running and the collection of biological samples is still very much in progress. In addition a round of economic interviews will be starting shortly.

thank you all.

BASS are providing us with their capture data, and reports are being considered.

It is important that we have as many datasets as possible from different sources to be able to detect and hopefully quantify bias (bias here is a technical survey term and shouldnt be taken as an insult!). As an example, it is likely that forum reports are highly biased to over reporting catches (within the 'posting angler' forum population) as people are less likely to report blanks and are more likely to report specimen fish than little schoolies.

unfortunately for the rsa, bass have an agenda to legislate and to offer up punitive restriction on bass fishing as we know it. For the rsa it is both un-warranted and un-necessary to have restrictions place on the rsa and charter skippers that will not serve a useful purpose. as for the ices shortfall of this year the commercial bass fishery guys have already offered up technical measures that will take the 20% shortfall into account. Unfortunately the bass ideal of restriction soldiers on and I cannot agree to it. Anecdotal evidence within the rsa should be taken with a pinch of salt and not used as evidence, nor should it be used for legislation.

Are you Cromcruaich on wsf, wonder how long you will be around once you have the information from the anglers that the uni are being paid for? not being funny but seen it time and again, no good will come of it for the rsa, it will be a stick to beat themselves up with pointless legislation.

Good to know there is some work being done to assess bass stocks. Ignore Barry - he is unrebuttable. For all I know he is known as Unrebuttable Barry. Probably not a lot of help posting details on WSF. No sane person goes there. :):

really, when you get off the personals, you can start posting up something that you may know something about and will help within the angling scene. Unfortunately this uni count on the bass had been hijacked on release by those who have an agenda to offer up pointless and worthless restrictions on the rsa without considering the picture.

Ices already do a rather good job on the stock count. The last two years there has been warnings issued by ices and they are looking for a reduction in the take. The uk commercial fleet, split equally into 3 parts trawling, netting and line caught is a healthy and sustainable attitude have already offered up technical methods to address the shortage. The likes of the trust and bass wish to see it heavily curtailed. However again, the likes of bass and the trust also want to go further and impose the Irish model on the uk fishery that will again only cause resentment and is not fit for purpose. The reason being is the French take of the same stock is massive compared to the uk's. Ok,

This is the very first post re the uni count, as you will see it's loaded with a pre-agenda regardless of the result. To date I have seen no rebuttal. I don't wish to go out on a charter boat and start sending bass back dead because of bleeding from the gills after I have achieved me quota, that isn't the sport that I know and it will achive diddly squatt, what do you say :

Hi all,
Supported by the WFSA and BASS, the Fisheries and Science Conservation Group based at Bangor University, (North Wales) are launching a project intended to provide evidence of commercial and recreational bass landings in order to better-assess the state of the stock in Wales.

Already recognising that the size and number of bass are in decline, and that bass angling is such an important stakeholder of the resource and a significant contributor to the Welsh economy, it is hoped that data gathered from fishers will allow improved and more sustainable management of the stocks and the associated increase in numbers and sizes of bass that we all yearn for.

In order for this project to be a success, the involvement of, and contributions from bass anglers is essential, and the WFSA and BASS hopes that the engagement of anglers will provide a positive reflection on how we want to do all we can to improve our fishing, and once the data is gathered it can be used as a platform from which to push for the same sort of measures that BASS and the Angling Trust are pushing for in England.
