Hi all

 

I have very recently started fishing and in need of some advice when it comes to bait. I have caught pleanty of coarse fish but I am yet to catch a carp. When it comes to bait I have used bread, sweet corn, dog biscuits, peperam etc but had no luck. Can anyone recommend any other types of bait to use? I am thinking of getting some of the pre made bait from a tackle shop, can anyone recommend a manufacture?

Hi and welcome to Anglers' Net.

 

The baits you mention should catch carp if there are carp where you are fishing so the problem probably is not your bait.

 

What kind of rig are you using, are you baiting the location you are fishing, and are you fishing top, middle, or bottom?

Hi and thankyou for the welcome and reply. When it comes to the location of fishing i have been doing all 3, surface, ledger and float. My set up is very basic as I've only just started so only using a 10ft float rod at the moment. I had baited the area and overshot the cast where the carp were so the line/ float would be in the area.

Nothing wrong with the baits you are using and all we catch Carp and they benefit from being cheap.

 

If you have plenty of cash burning a hole in your pocket then Mainline, Richworth & Nash make good bait and are available at almost all tackle shops and they will also catch plenty of Carp but cost you more per fish.

 

I doubt you are not catching Carp because of your choice of bait, either they are not there or you are doing something wrong. There are plenty of good Carp articles on Anglers Net that are worth a read.

 

If all else fails get on the cell mate :-)
