I've had chub to 4-ish from the Thames on lures. I like soft plastics.

There are times when they will smash any lure not just summer ,my old boat partner had a beat up old warrior of a chub that went 6 even on a Shakespeare big S trolled along freezing cold day wham , even the paddle tails fished the same produce eh Steve??.

Jeeez mate you got insomnia or something?.........

We are not putting it back it is a lump now put that curry down and go and get the scales

have I told you abouit the cruise control on my Volvo ,,,,,,,bla bla bla Barder rod has it come yet?? and don`t even start me on Chris Lythe :bleh::icecream:

I've never had one on a lure, when I started fishing the little soft plastics for perch a few years ago I kind of expected a few surprise chub, but it never happened. Same thing with the little livebaits. Don't know why!

It's a real pleasure to see the chub in such good nick, all were plump and fit and healthy. The couple I had at the end of last season were thin and knackered. Looks like they've recovered really well.

And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music

I used to fish the Cricklade area with little Mepps and catch perch, pike and chub. I had a 4-ish chub that way which was a big fish for that area and is still my largest from upstream of Cricklade. It was only after using them from your boat that I got confidence in the soft plastics, but now they tend to be my first choice.

Insomnia is my middle name!

The biggest fish was the first one, and gave a lovely confident bite after only 5 minutes in the first swim, from some slow water just a rod-length out from the bank. I had totally forgotten just how hard they fight under the rod tip, the rod was wrapped right over as it thumped for the near-bank snags and it was even pulling bits of line off the clutch. I'd also forgotten just how BIG they look! Such impressive fish. Pictures never do them justice sadly. These Thames fish are so stocky and broad across the back, and with really deep flanks.

Hmm, I seem to have been overcome with chub fever once again

Great when a plan comes together Anderoo! Nothing finer than proper winter chub in their prime. M

Apart from a stunning winter roach!

Hoping to fish the Thames tomorrow; may be hedging my bets on chub and roach, we'll see...

chub are good at anytime during the year but really come into their own in winter ,theres nothing quite like a nice cold crisp still morning & chubbin ,i have no days off now til the new year ,And if the weathers right i might go chubbin myself on my birthday ,as a treat to myself .

Yes apart from that! I haven't forgotten the roach but recent sessions have felt like I was a little bit too much up against the conditions.

When lure fishing for Perch I have found that the rod I use (Rating 0-5g) hasn't got enough back bone to set the hooks when the chub hits the lure, they seem to hit the lure hard I feel the hit and they let go, when I switch to a 5-20g rod when they hit the lure the strength of the rod seem to set the hooks better and it feels like your lure just got hit by a train.
