Where Do You Buy?

Don't normally allow blatant plugs in the chat forums, but to give others an idea, where do you UK kayakers buy your kayaks and accessories?

Are there many places in the UK that specialise?

Hiya Elton.

I got most of my Kayak Accessories from Bournemouth Canoes. They have a wide variety of Yaks to choose from.

Also use a place called Crazy Waters in Highcliff. They are very cheep for rigging bits and Pieces.

Bournemouth Canoes has a web site and mail order facility.

Most of my kayaking gear has been bought from Bournemouth Canoes www.bournemouthcanoes.co.uk. Had to import some things due to UK price and availability (dry suit from the US, UK Spec Icom VHF from Kuwait).

Can recommend www.outdoorplay.com if you have to buy from US (contact them for shipping quote first though and if you join American Canoe Association you will get a discount).

I may be buying the Scotty gimbal mount and rod holder (same as Simon Everett's) from the US too.

oops nearly forgot to mention Lidls :D:D

Hi Elton.

There are several Kayak and Paddle shops that stock the Sit-On-Top Kayaks used for fishing.

Over the past few months they have started to import the models specifically designed for fishing, this is due to the increasing interest in the sport.

They also sell other related kit, i.e. Paddles, Dry Cags, Paddle Pants ,Rash Vests, P.F.Ds.etc.

At the moment there isnt a shop that Specialises in Kayak Fishing Alone.

But rest assured, one will more than likely pop up soon.

If I had the money or backing, Id open up a custom Kayakfishing shop tommorrow, offering everything from the Kayak, to the hook on the end of he line.

Even building Yaks to a given order, and design.

Come on LOTTERY:D

I hate websites with all those slow to load grapics :( . Their wheels do look the business though, very nice.

Elton, I think that shops with specialised knowledge of fishing yaks are still few and far between. LOoks like things are improving from when we first started out though.

Got my first yak mail order from Southwater Watersports: http://www.ukkayaking.co.uk/ .They had no knowledge of fishing yaks at the time but were good to deal with.

Added two more yaks since, both from the Bosuns Locker in South Queensferry, by Edinburgh: http://www.bosuns.co.uk/

Big range of OK yaks, but again showed little knowledge about fishing. Was not impressed with their aftersales service either :( . That was a couple of years ago though and maybe they have improved.

Paddle from a sale at TISO, Cags and PFD's from a closing down sale at a small watersports shop.

Bits and bobs from Bournemouth Canoes (really friendly and helpful).

Shock cord,rigging bits,etc from the yakfishers superstore; B & Q ! :D
