Anchor or Milk carton???

Recommended Posts

I have rigged up an anchor pully system on my yak and was wondering if anyone has tried using a plastic milk carton to slow their drift down?

If so what size (2 pint or 4 pint carton)would be needed if I fill it with concreate or sand?

2/ Is a 1.5lb to heavy for a yak?

I have also been looking at the drift chutes.Does anyone own one?If so what are they like?

Many thanks.

1½lb is not to heavy for a yak, depending on the waters you are fishing you may need to go up to 3lb+, make sure you let out enough line/rope.

the milk carton sounds a good idea, let me know what weight they are when you fill one.

for a decent cheap anchor, take a look at vinyl dumb bells, cheap in most sports shops.

ray.

tight lines and safe paddling.

Thanks for the info Ray.

I will fill the milk cartons and post the weights on here.I should get out to try them on Tues or wed.

I will be using them in about 20ft of water,so I should be looking at about 50ft of rope.I think you are meant to have the rope 1 and a half times more longer than the depth you will be in.I am sure I read that on an American yak forum somewhere.
