Second Hand Yaks?

Boat Mart sometimes has one or two - BUT this is such a new thing that there are going to be very few coming back onto the used market yet. In all probability those that are being sold used will either be traded in as the owner switches to a different one, or one of his/her friends will snap it up - especially if it has been looked after. The other thing is that their resale value is so low that many are kept as second kayaks to lend to a friend or for younguns to use..ask YY, he has a whole Armada in his garage, so much so he has had to build an extension and work his elbow in decorating it :D

I was looking on ebay, the prices dont seem to drop much, well most seem to be more expensive than the new ones, or in wales at collection only.

Cheers

Really depends on what Im doing Geoff. For most fishing I like using the Perception "Freedom" (called the "Swing" in Australia and US). Its fast, tracks well and has plenty of places to put gear.

If im fishing close inshore with a pal, I sometimes take the OK Frenzys; they are smaller (9ft) and can stack together, so its easy to get two on the roofrack. Frenzys are also great for tight spots below cliffs or in the rocky intertidal area. I'd also use that if I start fishing small areas of f/w. Good for kids as well. Fantastic fun in the surf too! :D

Frenzys are a bit slow and short on room for gear though.

Just need a large OK Prowler and a surf ski now! :D

If a second hand yak does come up locally it might be worth checking out.Theres not that much to go wrong and any problems should be pretty obvious with a through check.

Where are you fishing Geoff?

The OK Prowler 13 is one of the first rotomoulded kayaks designed specifically for fishing - not just from a point of view of stowing things, but from a handling perspective too. They would make a good touring sea kayak even they are so easy to use in big seas. Have a look at the "splashin about" thread - you'll see what i mean.

When you give us all a few more parameters of where and what you'll be doing we can better answer your question.

Geoff, eBay.co.uk is gr8 for them but keep an eye on postage costs as it's very difficult to post a Kayak/Canoe.

I've both bought & sold them on there & it's a nightmare if there's a good distance between buyer & seller and you need a Courier to transport it & the cheapest I found without a conract was £120

I've just had a look on Ad Trader in the North East of England today & the prices as u say are OTT. Most of the yaks I saw were both distant (to me)& over priced as well!

Maybe it's best to buy new & pay the £20-£30 carriage on it or haggle for a paddle in with it ?
