i really like this idea, we have loads of inshore reefs that would be perfect for the fly.

you want delicate presentation in clear water ? ahem .

i emailed ocean's distributers in the UK to ask how i could get one to guernsey and never got a reply.

anglersafloat is a top site BTW.

GB,

a chat with StarvinMarvin might help with the ocean kayak reply as he has a 'good contact' there and I'm sure could find out more for you ...he's nice like that...and like you say that site he's made is a fantastic resource!

As for the fly...I use the fly all the time from the yak and it does indeed make a great flyfishing platform...once you've adjusted to being a little lower to the water (still probably higher than a float tube though! :) )

Anyway I'll bet your water is warmer and the fish bigger...so I'm warming up for that 70 mile paddle! :D:D:D

Cheers for now I'm tying more flies while it rains and blows a gale outside! :D

Hi there Guernseybass.

Glad you like the Kayak fishing idea.

For your neck of the woods, it would be a perfect

form of fishing.

Easey to transport,no running costs, launch practicly anywhere, and its stealthy fishing.

Im sorry to hear you had no response from Ocean

distributers, normaly their service is very good, must be a reason for no reply.

Starvin will be on to that I expect.

Did you have any particular Model in mind ??

Will be great to hear how you got on , Might have to add you to the Kayak fisherman list :D:D .

Look forward to your report.

Cheers.

Yakity.

Guernseybass,

Ocean Kayak are usually excellent, Andrew (the man you need to talk to, please mention AnglersAfloat when you do) may have been away on business, lot going on at the moment with the 2005 gear being launched.

Check on their website to see if there is a distributor in Guernsey or Jersey already, I know people that have used SOTs on Jersey so they must be available.

Also try the nice people at :

as they may be able to help you, I know that they have been a great help to Yakity.

Like Artfulfisher, I chuck fluff from the Yak, and have found the switch from shore incredibly easy, getting the right fly is a little harder.

Oh yes, http://www.anglersafloat.co.uk is a really great resource

So I did enjoy the Kayak fishing!

Was impressed with how shallow they floated in, which was important where we were.

Had a foam seat thing which was invaluable in providing a back support, and wore a wetsuit to stay warm (as it was fairly windy, and raining!)

Took a five foot spinning rod with me, and thoroughly enjoyed myself, catching two bass in the process.

One was only a pound or so, but the other was 3 1/2, and actually towed the Kayak momentarily!

Will I be doing it again- yes.

Will I be buying one- not yet as need a cheaper car to destroy with one!

And Guernseybass- Jersey has a distributor!

Glad you enjoyed it and what a great result .

The foam seats with back support seem expensive, but are worth every penny.

Why not buy a van and rot it from the inside as well, I keep my rods set up and the yak inside and ready to go at weekends this gives me the most time out fishing!

It certainly was! Nearly as far out as the tower there, but the larger one was a lot closer in.

And to answer another topic I started, the fish must have seen me cause I was in a big kayak!

Was actually a big confidence boost.

Oh, and they now have Sammy's in the fishing shops!

Any luck with the mullet?

Hey Grant,

Excellent,Im glad you had some fun, and fish out there on Sunday.

The Bass arnt bothered about the Yak,unless your your banging about in it, or clipping the side of the Yak while paddleing, they will chase a lure to the very side of the boat, then show you thier arse and disappear :D:D

Hope you have more luck with Ocean Kayaks next time.

Keep in touch, and informed on the Yak front.

Great news.

YY :)
