USING PASTE AS BAIT?

Greetings,

Apolgies y'all if this question has been asked before.

I've been given two small tubs of coarse fishing paste-bait. To apply same I assume that one simply extracts a tad from the tub, then 'works it' between one's fingers then applies it to the hook by 'pressing it firmly all around'? Have I got the process right?

Any advice on hook sze - small hooks, medium hooks etc. will be appreciated.
