Its the old tale of artificially keeping prices high ,a local grower here gets his EU subsidy then ploughs in fields of cabbage and dumps lorry loads of leeks at the local landfill ,it stinks of leeks every autumn.

In spains case is they could sell something cheap for a change but ofcourse france wants their countrymen to buy expensive ,rather than spain being the bad guy its france

 

When farmers are subsidised to grow nothing rather than give EU members cheap prices then they will grow nothing ,its costs nothing to grow nothing so its nearly all profit

 

The food trade is ludicrous we send fish from our waters to china to be processed and they sdnd it back instead of paying a few pence more and having it done here ,no wonder theres so many cases of stomach troubles ,week old fish and chinese dandruft and spit ,we probably have an inbuilt immunity to home grown dandruft and spit

 

...no wait if its processed here it would be polish and romanians dandruft and spit but hey its closer dandruft and spit to chinese dandruft and spit ,we could even fit in bogies if we removed the chinese bits

I want people to go naked clothing me and starving to death feeding me ,whats wrong with that ?

But having to import basics when i could be starving our own workers seems silly.

Being paid not to grow food seems even more silly ,we have 80 acres of fields up the road (belong to an african chief!!!) doing nothing ,even putting a few cows in to fatten up is better.his land agents and ultimately him will be getting money not to do so

We ship trees to the Far East to come back as plywood (at a lesser expense than we could do it). I'm having difficulty finding fault with that.

Britain has not been self sufficient ever since most of the population left the land to work in the factories.

 

I read somewhere without oil the planet could only support 500 million so it will sort itself out eventually

Poor you ,i bought bent ones in sainsbury, probably cheaper

Go to any foreign food shop and you will get bananas and plantains of every shape you can think of ,the "straight" bit you maybe referring to was not about straight or bent bananas but unusually shaped bananas and small green bananas .

You get around the small sizes by calling them "fun" or kids fruit and two fingers to the rules ,any unusual shaped bananas will simply be diverted to a production line for dried bananas at twice the cost thanks to the EU

 

The EU being corrupt from bottom to top will bring in directives favouring anyone with a fat brown envelope ,if banana grower 4 from jamaica with high prices pushes a fat brown envelope into a few back pockets cheap bananas from the windward islands will suddenly be banned for some obscure reason
