Best super strong barbless eyed hooks?

I fished for the Siamese Carp in Thailand last year and am thinking about a return visit. On the last trip, I had several brands of good hooks destroyed and only some high quality Gamakatsu's stood up to the pressure. Trouble is I'm not sure of the model number and don't know if they'll be available again in the same shop.

 

I'm looking for barbless, short shanked hooks with a straight eye but they must be super strong. Sizes will be smaller than the local Thai anglers would opt for so I'll be looking for sizes 8 and up to maybe as big as a 2.

 

Any suggestions?

I use these for Cats. The barb can be pinched down or Dremelled off.

Very strong and take a knotless knot very well.

Why so small? I'm like Kappa, I'd think you would have quite a selection. Probably a non-ferrous forged hook.

I can't say I've ever caught 100lb fish on a size 8 hook. Not sure what the definition of "strong" is under those circumstances

Why so small?

 

Because they are naturally filter feeders and are caught by suspending a bait (usually breadflake) beneath a cage feeder. They come in to feed on the cloud of food particles and are much more likely to suck in a small bait than a big one.

Small bait, small hook and a braid hooklink saw me outfishing the regulars 7:1 in March but hook failures were an issue. The most reliable of all the hooks I tried were the Gamakatsu's that were brought from a local shop but of course, I can't guarantee that they will still have stock or that that will be the first place I visit.

Small baits also increases the number of interesting species that I can catch.

These Maruto hooks are tough, tough, tough...and cheap. (If you find the prices marked in USD change the currency on the righthand sidebar...they are based in the UK but sell a lot of gear to the States).

The 6/0 and 10/0 that I use are small though, I haven't used the smaller sizes so an assortment might be useful!....not barbless though but easily rectified.

 

p.s. check out the Aussie swivels too if fishing light gear but want strong, small swivels.
