Biggun',

Pleeeeeze !! Politically, I'm generally with you but "resents" for "represents" . Damned if I wouldn't vote for a politician it that was his only mistake - a slip of the thong.

I think it would be a good thing if MPs were more willing to jump ship when they don't agree with their party. We don't vote for parties, we vote for individual MPs.

You might but in Scotland there are constituencies who would vote for a monkey as long as the monkey was sporting a red rosette and I suspect that there are many constituencies in England that would return a donkey as long as the donkey was wearing a blue one.

Politics is a bit like religion. Many people subscribe to the religion of their parents and vote for the political party their parents voted.for.

It's time we got rid of our German Lairdies and had a Republic.

The problem isn't what people don't know, it's what they know that just ain't so.

Oh, people certainly do vote for candidates on the basis of the party they stand for, that's undeniable. But they don't get to vote for a party, they get to vote for a candidate and the candidate gets to be a member of the voting blocs we call parties. If they paid more attention to who they were voting for and not what colour his ties is, there might not be so many sleazebags in politics!
