Pointing out that there is a significant group of voters, er anglers, with a real interest in the species, and that interest generates economic value and jobs way beyond what the commercial fishing oportunities offer, is the way to get them to listen. Unquote

Hi Leon

That wiil always been the basis of our argument.

All we are questioning is the name. Names were banded about for a few days. No one liked the words "small sharks" Ideas were passed about for a few days and the SOS was the name accepted by the most people. So a democratic decision was made.

The fact that so many organisations have used the Save our xxxx may indicate just what a good name it is.

Rather than referring to 'small sharks' or trying to list those that we are interested in, the phrase 'Recreational Shark Species' has a ring to it, and puts down a marker that these fish have a recreational value.

Unfortunately 'big game' anglers and shark fishing tournamounts in the States and elsewhere have put into the public's mind a picture of recreational shark anglers slaughtering sharks, for pictures taken next to bloody monsters.

We need to counter that image by stressing that UK Recreational Shark Angling is all about catch and release, tagging and conservation of these wonderful creatures.

As well as conserving recreational shark species, (IMO) the society should have the promotion of this image of recreational shark angling just as high on it's agenda.
