Not a good week for space flight

First, an Antares rocket explodes and now Virgin's suborbital joyrider for the rich has crashed.

It rather begs the question of whether the private sector is the way to go when it comes to the sort of spaceflights that are intended to facilitate exploration and human advancement or whether such endeavours are best left in public hands.

If the government would actually fund the process then probably public funds would be the way forward. However, with so much tax money going to fund social programs that just keep growing and taking more money (for no potential return on investment), it probably isn't likely.

Interesting that you target "Social programs" rather than military expenditure.

All the more so as red states appear to receive more federal funds than blue states.

So theres never been an accident when the government funded space program was running?

You learn from mistakes and we make lots ,we have only been flying for 110 years i expect theres plenty more mistakes to be made

America can afford both. Half a penny on income tax would double NASA's budget.

The problem isn't what people don't know, it's what they know that just ain't so.
