Shore Fishing - B'mth or Christchurch

Dan

Recommended Posts

Hi, anyone know any good marks this time of year between Bournemouth and Christchurch? I'd like to go fishing with my son and he lives down that way.

Cheers

Dan

There's a fine line between fishing and standing on the shore like an idiot!

Can't help I'm afraid but let us know how you get on. I'm hoping to get out Monday either Hayling or Portsmouth.

I know nothing of sea fishing, or it's marks.

I do know there's barely enough room to get a fag paper between Bournemouth and Christchurch.

The only fishing between the two would be in Christchurch Harbour.

For "proper" sea fishing you may have to look a little further East or West.

Gently shelving sand beaches from Bournemouth to Boscombe mean long casting is required, and even then, rewards used to be scant.

Best bet might be Hengistbury Head although it is a long time since I fished it - and that was in summer. Got wrasse and bass from the groyne (dunno if fishing is still allowed there). but I don't know what sort of a winter mark it is. It used to be a fair old walk from the nearest car park.

As a (not very helpful - sorry) guide, not much gets reported from Bournemouth itself.

Thanks, that's what I thought although the key at Mudeford or Avon Beach looked more promising but has a fierce tide and I've no idea what might be there! (weed probably!) TBH I think we might head to Chesil, or perhaps Kimmeridge

Chesil beach has been getting some good reports this year. When are you going and I will try and get some updated info for you? I was in your neck of the woods last week picking up a kayak I've bought for sea fishing.

Plenty of cod up to about 7lb being caught all along Chesil Beach, so I'm told. I met a couple of chaps at Langton Herring last night, they had driven all the way from Plymouth.

Got off to a good start but it's gone a bit dead lately. Waiting for some cold weather to get them moving south. Had a blank season last year as I was nursing a broken ankle and didn't want to aggravate it. Plates and screws part way up my leg. Still fairly stiff every morning and I can feel it(level 1) every step I take. Still stoking myself up with Cod liver oil and Green-lipped mussel tablets every morning. Mobicosa Gel worked wonders!

Forgot to mention that a chap caught 4(I think) Tuna off the beach at Langton Herring last year. Not far from where all the Trigger Fish get caught.
