Scottish RSA - first steps to political identity

Does anyone have the historical results from the matches run by ayr sac. If the demise of these matches was caused by lack of fish the weights should show a fall over a given period of time.

It may be worth contacting other clubs to see if they have accurate catch returns for there matches stretching back over a period of time.

I got this email of my m8. Perhaps some of the info could be of use. It is the cost involved in attending the fife open from Scarborough. I would say there are at least 20 from this neck of the woods attend.

Hi Glenn,

Regarding Fife expenses - fuel £60, hotel £30/ night (normally 1 but some lads go up for 2), bait - 50 crabs x £0.80ea, Food/ drink probably £30ish - disposable tackle £10 - I'd guess it costs me personally around £120 for the weekend, staying 1-night. A few guys like ****** take wives/ girlfriends who do some damage around the local markets during the match.

Hi Ian,

The Angus area fishing is about the same as i remember from a kid.

Cod, cod and more cod :)

Resident Red cod through the summer, and the big shoals of offshore fish moving close in to feed on the winter strom smashed reefs.

Charter fleet has shrunk due to excesive (IMHO) goverment intervention on environmental and safety grounds.

Very little commercial effort here these days. Most the bigger boats are working out of Aberdeen/Peterhead and years since I've seen any close in.

The local commmercial fleet is on its last legs and I can see the local fishermens association packing up soon. Arbroath will end up a place for Edinburgh yatchies to park up :( They will shop at a tesco on the outskirts of Edinburgh so its hard to see how it will benefit my patch. :(

FWIW I like Ross Finnie ;):)

Hi Chris

I suspect that the North east corner of Scotland is benefitting from the Northern drift of the Zooplancton. I guess no one can predict how, where and when this will end.

As for Finnie I am sure you do like him as he has stood behind commercial fishermen; at the expense of other stakeholders IMO. Even Jack McConnel is peed of with him for his stance on Lamblash bay

The shore events would be hard to put into monetary terms but suffice to say we had many people travel from all over Scotland and the NW & NE of england to compete. these people would all stay the weekend.

seaside; the boat festival was run by Brain Burns so he may have some records as the council were involved.

as for the shore events as they died then the records were effectively binned as the detail was no longer reqd.

all we have left was a record of the financial benefits to the club or in the last few years the loss.

ironically Ayr had 2 tackle shops for years but with the demise of the local sea angling scene 1 shop went with it.

recently there have been a number of trout ponds opened in the local area and we now have a second shop which specialises in trout gear. just shows that if there is a stock of fish people will go and hence the economy benefits.
