I'm glad I went

I think it was Anderoo who took a chance with a bad weather forecast recently and yet came up trumps.

Well I did the same today, the forecast was for rain all day but by 9:00am it hadn’t arrived so I pared down what I needed to the bare minimum (even the wicker basket stayed at home) and popped along to small stream not worthy of a second look. If the heavens opened I could make a quick getaway.

I last fished it about five years ago during the summer, a friend told me about the roach potential and I did find them but on that occasion not much else. This time access was a lot better and the roach were still in the same swim, I caught a few small ones (6oz or so) and bumped off a couple which felt like they would’ve needed the net. Once they’d spooked I wandered off downstream trotting anywhere I could get to, the final tally was a perch of about a pound and a half, several really chunky dace and to top it off a 3lb chub.

A brilliant impromptu day on a river which is now firmly in the winter venue book. It’s about as close as I’ll get to fishing from my back garden.

The weather looks bad for tomorrow but if there’s a break I want to find out how big the lost roach were.

Unlucky Rich losing a big Perch is a horrible thing ,Rusty well done on making the effort and finding some fish mate sounds like a nice trib venue for when she is angry .Spent day Chub fishing the Thames when juding by the number of silvers a grebe had in front of us would have been better served maggot feeder and lives for Perch . Did have the pleasure of fishing with Neil Wayte for the day and conversation made up for any lack of fish

We are not putting it back it is a lump now put that curry down and go and get the scales

have I told you abouit the cruise control on my Volvo ,,,,,,,bla bla bla Barder rod has it come yet?? and don`t even start me on Chris Lythe :bleh::icecream:

We took a gamble on the Frome today - weather forecasters got it totally wrong - hardly a drop of rain all day in Dorset - despite a rather coloured up river Paul and I both managed 2lbers - and a couple of nice dace each - blog entry in the morning!

I went chubbing in the afternoon, after the forecast had changed several times... Not much to report, no bites and no fish!

Lots of rain forecast for tomorrow so that may be it for this weekend.

And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music

Good stuff. Those tiny streams also have the advantage that they tend to recover from downpours much quicker than bigger rivers.
