A rather simplistic view I thought, and not a fisherman or EA bod in sight. Gave the impression that fish were merely there as food for predators

The two best times to go fishing are when it's raining and when it's not

Michael Parry the guy in charge of the Yorkshire River Board, 'way back when'. It was his dream to have salmon running up the Yorkshire Ouse again. It worked, (to an extent), I remember seeing salmon leaping the weir at Tadcaster. Hooking one on Bedale beck, and running downstream until a tree halted my progress, but not that of the fish. It taking 60-70yds of line before breaking me. Newby Hall issuing salmon day tickets, as an add on to the normal ones. Watching salmon on the Swale. All this back in the late 60s early 70s, still hear of the odd one now and again, but I wouldn't say they were back in any numbers.

We hated it when they started running, thinking that the rivers would become too expensive, the coarse fishing would restricted, etc. We breathed a sigh of relief when we realised that the run was very small, after the initial spate. I think that will be the same in this case as well.

John.

Angling is more than just catching fish, if it wasn't it would just be called 'catching'......... John

I think stocking programs in the past have shown its not that hard to get salmon to return to a river, even one that isn't that clean. The real test is getting them to be self sustaining.
