I like a lump of bread flake on a size 8 or 6 hook.
And thats my "non indicative opinion"!

Most of our regular shop customers are carpers so boilies tend to be our biggest selling bait by far - However - outside of carp baits our biggest selling bait product is the Quantum Fishing Green Mussel Sweetcorn (made by Browning) - we outsell green mussel over the other flavours by 3 or 4 to 1.

It's supposed to fish like a b'stad for tench according to our customers. It's pickled and comes out of the jars moist but dry i.e. the colour doesn't wash out, and the grains are very firm meaning they tend to stay on even with nuisance fish. I think Quantum have been pushing some of their bait lines forward in the angling press recently.

my fav is got to be corn, but lately worms taking over.I had some great fish on worm, and there is the chance for bonus perch.
Never had much luck on bread.
Carp tactics seem to cruel for tench and every time i hook tench on that set up im convinced it was incidental.

Sometimes I use worms in a match on Commercial venues because if i am struggling for bites i will always have a bite on it and it never hardly comes of and I have had tench from 1-3lb on worm. Thanks for the advice up to know. :)

Those Tench are certainly popular 17,000 plus views on good Tench baits :o

Just bumped the thread as some good little bits included on Tench baits with a few links to articles for what from the favourite fish poll does look like a very popular fish.

You could use the info on this thread or just hair rig a boilie and lob it in Carp Style ;)

My best Tench was caught on a hair rigged halibut pellet next to some lily pads. I could see the pads moving where the Tench were probably feeding on smalll snails on the stems... lobbed a few free offerings out, then put my hair rigged pellet out, within a few minutes it was on the bank... it was also my very first Tench ever caught! it was early morning, I think I got down there about 6am... fishing at that time in the morning its so peaceful and quiet and simpy a pleasure to be outside to be amongst it, the fishing is of course a bonus too!

Cheers,

Stu...

All,

We only have limited stocks of tench (the green ones). Favorite bait(s) for targeting tench all seem to be very salty. A pal in California used field corn stored in a rock salt brine solution. "Carpy" baits are common but tench anglers (VERY few) all seem to rave if copious amounts of salt are added.

You guys do that? I've never caught a tench on purpose, just carping once in a while.

Phone,

Salty baits are certainly good for Carp and I used to add salt to groundbait for a lot of my Tench fishing and I used to add rock salt to PVA bags when fishing for Tench. I have always assumed it was attractive to them or at the very least they were not put off by using it.

I am lucky enough to fish a water with Tench that also contains a few big Bream and on this water at least I have left salt out of my baits because I have heard so much about it not been liked by Bream. To be honest I can't make my mind up on this as I have had some huge catch's of Bream when I have well over done the salt content of my groundbait but if in doubt leave it out :D

I often wonder how long any bait stays salty once thrown in to freshwater, surely the salt content would be diluted very quickly.
