Outcome of the e u discussions regarding the fisheries tac's and quotas for this year included these words from the minister:

 

“I was disappointed no decision was reached this year to improve bass stocks but will be following up on the Commission’s commitment to work with Member States in the New Year. The UK has been a lone voice on this issue and it is essential we achieve a balanced approach which reflects the contribution of both commercial fisheries as well as recreational anglers on declining bass numbers.”

 

He was right and correct about the lone voice, it was the attempt by TAT including salter to get the bass in the u k restricted for both the commercial sector and the rsa. That is without even speaking to the rsa. They failed.

 

What is worse, they failed in their crass attempt to get meaningful legislation on the actual problem. They failed the bass stock and failed the very anglers who they claim to represent. The so called recruitment evidence they relied upon is half missing and incomplete

 

The minister is weak and TAT is not fit for purpose to deal with the actual bass problem.

:hammer: It will never happen, the meaning is in the ministers statement. "We have got a good deal for our commercial fishermen". That's the problem. They are looking after the interests of the commercial fishermen, they're not looking after the fish stocks, if they were, RSA's, tackle shops, bait providers, boat builders, guest houses, marinas, tackle manufacturers etc would all benefit from more anglers fishing for more and bigger fish. The only people to benefit from this government's, and previous government's approach is the Irish tourist board, ferry companies and airlines taking British anglers to their foreign fishing destinations where they spend thousands of ££££'s when they could be spending it at home. :doh:

Martin Salter even had a pop at Eustice on his FB page so I asked Salter why he had told anglers they were not looking for bag limits but had gone behind our backs and asked HMG for a 2 fish bag limit...he replied with a copy of the minister's briefing notes so I replied....

"I know exactly what it says in your briefing to MPs Martin. What you were telling anglers (at the same time) was..."The Angling Trust has helped to draft a briefing note in a partnership between the European Anglers Alliance (EAA), the European Tackle Trade Association (EFTTA) and the International Forum For Sustainable Underwater Activities (IFSUA) to influence the Commission and Member States before the Council of Ministers meets on December 15th-16th."

This briefing note says:

"Proposals for a recreational bag limit to be dropped until there is
more data available on its effectiveness in reducing fishing mortality
and until more serious efforts are made to restrict commercial bass
fishing mortality in a fair and proportionate way."

Now please explain in plain English, why you were telling anglers that you didn't want a bag limit and, at the same time, telling HMG that you wanted a 2 fish bag limit?"

Reckon I'll get an honest answer?

Eating wild caught fish is good for my health, reduces food miles and keeps me fit trying to catch them........it's my choice to do it, not yours to stop me!

Absolutely no rsa where asked about bag limits, no rsa where asked to be represented by TAT or the EAA or the tackle trade, on this so called bass issue. TAT are paying the EAA healthy sums of anglers and tax payers monies over to the EAA, what for?

The europeon commercial bass fishing countries are not happy with the rsa poking their nose into damaging their business's so they are proposing a total take ban on all rsa bass landings.

So as the rsa orgs who wanted rsa recognition into the failed cfp without consultation, might just well get what they have asked for.
