kayak tarpon 140

I'd be happy to recommend to the Scupper Pro as a first kayak  After a few hours paddling for a newcomer in sheltered waters getting to used to her and practicing reentry I don't forsee any problems with it. In my opinion its a safer kayak than most - it performs well in the rough stuff and you can make headway against strong wind. Lots of newcomers in the States start off with the Scupper Pro.

What extra do you get if u get the angler version? what is the price difference?

You get a center hatch, a flat console area in between footwells and two flush mount rod holders.. worth the extra £30 (anglers edition is £430). Don't know what availablity is like on the anglers edition but if they're not available you could always go for a standard one and fit the extras yourself (you won't have the flat console though).Standard one is £400.

Where is the best place to buy one?

Always been suspicious of couriers as they chuck stuff around :wallbash:

Probably best to go direct and ask Andrew from Johnson Outdoors about stock availability... he posts here as OKReally.. worth a PM.

If you are considering the Scupper Pro or any other kayak try and take one out for a paddle first though.

The only way to be sure is like you say get out and try them, do have a move around try and sit side on, grab things from the tankwell, reach for the finder if one is attached, pretend if there isn't.

The main reason for not recommending the Scupper Pro as a first time kayak is watching a first time paddler tip out in calm conditions, then struggle to near exhaustion to get back on board, he would still be trying if there hadn't been others there to hold the kayak steady. Yes he had the correct clothing on, his PFD was fitted correctly but was the whitewater (padding up front) style which didn't help. If had been on a Prowler then he wouldn't have had the same problem. It wasn't so much climbing back on board or righting the kayak, it was returning to the seated position once onboard that was the problem.

What we must all remember is that not all paddlers have as much experience as some on this forum, some of us have paddled in extreme conditions (fool hardy or not) and we know what our kayaks are capable of, we just need to remember what it's like as a beginner maybe with no previous experience of being at sea.

My thoughts on the Tarpon, think you have already read them on AnglersAfloat. The Prowler 13 review hasn't been written up yet, but in my mind it is still the best all round fishing kayak available for it's size.

I am in no rush to buy a kayak just trying to discover what kayak to buy.

I will be fishing off my 10ft one first and then deciding what will suit me.

I have an open mind at the moment.
