Great "Fishing" TV Programs

I know its been done a thousand times before, whats your favourite TV angler and TV show but i thought I would bring it up again as I love a list :-) Plus it might bring up some programs that I am not come across yet.

I think maybe I have a higher tolerance then most for bad fishing programs but when it comes to TV, I would rather watch a bad TV program about fishing then just a bad TV program. Saying that I did not get much further then around 3 episodes of Fishing Gurus but I did stike with Right Angle with Bob Nudd to the bitetr end. That was more out of respect to Bob and what he had achieved rather then any enjoyment in the program.

One thing that is glaringly obvious to me about the TV shows I like is that the ones I consider the "best" have big budgets, experienced crews and have been given time and resources to produce the finished program. Therefore its hard to compare something like The Big Fish Off with Catching the Impossible. How it could if ever come close?. Therefore,in my mind you have to judge each within its constraints and budget.

For what its worth, these are my favs. they are not in order as that changes from time to time. Many i consider just good TV that happens to involve fishing.

Fishing Adventurer with Cyril Chauquet

River Monsters

Passion for Angling

Catching the impossible

Extreme fishing with Robson Green

Wicked Tuna

Swords Life on the Line

Fish Warrior with Jakub Vagner

Deadliest Catch

Monster Fish with Zeb Hogan

Swamp People (they do use hooks for gators and often fish for Cats & Gar)

Go Fishing, top TV full stop and made at a fraction of anything listed above.

Below are shows that I don't think have the quality of my first list but for the resources used to make them, I feel are decent fishing shows.

Carp Crew

Thinking Tackle

Wet Nets

On Coarse with Dean Macey

Day Ticket

Improve Your Coarse Fishing with Kev Green

Predators

The Great Rod Race

The Greater Rod Race

King Fishers

Another glaringly obvious thing to me with the 2 lists, is to make a "fishing" program interesting well to me at least. It needs to have much more to it then just fishing.

Nothing bettered APFA in my opinion. Another to add to your list which I enjoyed immensely at the time was/is The Fishing Race - a 1970's programme competing for the Golden Maggot - basically a species race IIRC. Poledark will remember - he was in it!

I loved A Passion for Angling and Catching the Impossible; the recent Mr Crabtree effort was worth watching as well as one with Geofrey Palmer in it? think it was called The Compleat Angler?

APFA for me too but there was another one which I found really interesting. The angler was searching out long forgotten urban streams and rivers and trying to catch something from them, it took him to the most unlikely places. Don't remember what it was called though.

It's never a 'six', let's put it back

Definitely not A Passion for Angling for me, I like Chris Yates's writing but his voice just grates on me and don't get me started about bl**dy Robson Green.

I thought the original Go fishing with John Wilson was excellent for the broad depth of angling that he covered and as someone has already stated all on a tiny budget. I also enjoyed Rex Hunt as he reinvigorated lure fishing in the UK. (at least he did for me).

After a certain age, if you don't wake up aching in every joint, you are probably dead.
