How what we eat has changed?

I was thinking of cooking a real old english meal so i looked this up. Look how things have changed especially with some animals that 99% of the status quo would be sick even thinking of it.

I like to think i know more than the average person on what to find outdoors i can eat but look at some of these herbs and spices especially in the drinks and i have never heard of them?

What great names some of them have . 'Can i have a mug of plague water please'?

"Take eight gallons of Ale, take a Cock and boil him well". Sadists.

The problem isn't what people don't know, it's what they know that just ain't so.

To Stew a Carp.

Scrape off the Scale, make it clean with in and without, save the Blood, and mingle it with a pint of Claret, lay it in a stew-pan, with as much water and white-wine as will cover it, sprinkle it over with beaten Cloves, Ginger, Nutmeg and sweet Herbs, quarter in a large Onion, put in about half a pound of Butter, and when it boyls up, put in the Blood and Claret; and when it is enough serve it up, Garnishing with slices of Oranges and Greens. And in this manner you may Dress a Breem, Barble, Salmon, Trout, Pike, or any not over large Fish.

What a waste of a pint of wine.

No need to go back 300 years. 40 or 50 is enough to make British food unrecognisable.

Anyone for "curry" with apple and sultanas?

How about Jam Roly-Poly?

Funny thing is its probably better for ye than the sh¡t ye eat now.

Yesterday i had a big steak with mushrooms onions and a few chips. Nephew had a feckin westlers tinned hamburger n chips. I dont know how on earth he think thats better than a bit of steak!!!!!!!

Will never change his mind. Its impossible.

I remember an argument about a lovely bit of chicken breast and his processed chicken nuggets.

Wouldnt for love nor money eat the chicken breast but would eat the other shite so easily.

I tried to argue "they are both chicken" only ma chickens all chicken dunno wit yours is son. Bits of baws or somethin.

You eat what you like or you eat what you can afford ,i prefer luncheon meat to spam ,i could eat steak but you get more luncheon meat for the price

The. Last steak i had was a big bugger on the cross channel ferry ,it was bought for me if i had to pay i would have gone without saving my pennies for more food later

All,

Most of those recipes are American

Phone

As far as i can see all the sources are pre 1776 so their not ,the word english at the head of the page also gives a clue

I once has an 1876 formulary, some great recipes in there which contained whats now illegal or out of fashion or just plain dangerous (by modern standards) ingredients
