Now Where have I Read That Before?

Personally, I would be all in favour of a fence-mending process with the commercial fishermen.

Hello john and michele

I think the majority of the rsa would be in favour to john, but you see the commercial industry wants it all there own way full stop, now if things where to change then ofcourse representatives can sit down and sort things out, you know like they do in other antipodean country's for example john, one thing is for certain though things will never return to what they were thats for sure, cheers...........

This is what one person has put in my forum.

"Well I personally wouldn't mind seeing a restriction imposed on the amount of fish you can keep when recreational fishing. I understand they are putting a limit on it in the Channel Islands as a test bed. As long as the commercials stay within their boundaries then so would I. Anything to help protect fish stocks. no matter how small its got to be a good thing.80 STONES OF FILLET IS TAKING THE P*SS. And the comment about "Supplying the family" is an insult to my intelligence. I love fishing I have my own boat but I cannot abide Greed. I think it has raised a valid point. "

Every year at this time, there are a lot of squid to be caught around Portland.

I was talking to someone who had tried his hand at it but, he could not catch as many as the locals. He reckoned that a boat within a few yards of where he was fishing 'must have had about 30 stone'.

These are boats of 14ft max and not powered!

Is anybody suggesting that fish that have a very short season should be subject to bag limits, or doesn't it matter about bait species?

Hello Stavey,

Having been involved in both the commercial and chartering industries for many years, I have found in the main that both the commercial fishermen and the recreational anglers are very nice, normal, sensible, decent people; and the vast majority have an eye for the future. However, representatives of both parties seem to me to be somewhat different. Maybe it is their vocation to stir things up with half-truths and misinformation?

Common people don’t start wars, their leaders do.

John, I'd be interested to know what you consider the RSA reps have done to stir things up with the commercial sector, and what half truths and misinformation they have used to their end.

regards

Doc.

Hi john, well thats how it used to be i agree, but with todays technology like the internet and sea angling forums for instance the common people are so much more informed to what is and want is not happening and are drawing their own conclusions, and even better airing their views, and as we have found out being listened to by all insundry.

I am one of those common people john we are all not leons/docs/steve's/ or any other unelected representatives, just simple common people that have put up with the short end of the stick for far to long and now its time to stand up and be counted, sea angling was one of my favourite passtimes and it has been totaly wrecked by a greedy few imo, i dont blame the small individual local fishermen so much but those with large trawlers and factory ships (that were addmittedly encouraged by past governments) for what has happened, things must change if there is any chance of a recovery and i feel that whats left of the commercial industry it must do the same.....cheers

I've wrote numerous letters to DEFRA on this issue. Hardly ever even get a reply. Most of the other people I know who moan constantly about the commercials and defra just hide themselves away when you ask for their support.
