Drennan Specialist Tench and Bream rods

The spliced tip on my Harrison canal special was unacceptably weak. First tip broke at the splice and was replaced under warranty, second one I fixed myself.

Lovely little rod, though.

OK That's one :)

I have the Drennan tench rods and find them fine, i also have the greys specialists which come with 1/12lb 2lb tops which i use for tench and bream, also use them for touch ledgering for chub and barbel they appear fine.

My only comment on the drennan rods is that some centre pin reel seats are to big to fit the reel fittings.

just one more cast then I'am off home

Seems quite common on Drennan rods. Its a bit hard fitting Mitchells on to my Drennan Pike rods. You need to screw the locking collar all the way back.

And thats my "non indicative opinion"!

Whilst I personally do have a preferance for Harrison, original Shimano Diaflash and Daiwa amorphous whisker specialist rods I am told by many anglers that the Greys Prodigy rods are very good and the ones listed below may be worth a look especially wit the veritillaty offered with the two tips.

The North western 1 1/4 test 12 ft Tench rods are corkers also. They have a screw fitting in the tip for a quiver or swing tip. There worth keeping an eye out for and do occasionally come up on ebay or small adds.

I've posted a few topics on this subject, its really annoying there are very few rods on the market that fit the bill!

I actually think barbel rods are poorly suited to gravel pit fishing. The tips are too soft and the middle too stiff! I've also destroyed a barbel rod casting a heavy load a long way! I think that because the middle of these rods are so stiff it creates massive strain around the spigot that wouldn't occur with an old school carp rod or a non barbel rod, thus leading to a broken rod.
