Does C Tangler have a website? many EMAP titles do and your letters posted on the home website don't get edited by those who have a vested interest in the contents being kept out of the public eye.

If you have concerns, complaints or niggles with the editorial response to the letter, maybe replies could be sent to the website where they will be seen by more than the readers - bosses keep their eyes on the dedicated website pages.....

I have come across stubborness and refusal at this door before - this was the only magazine to publicly DECRY the work of BASS and blame the one and only conservation organisation that had put forward any possible plans for fish management that would have a benefit to sea anglers - RSA as it has now been OFFICIALLY recognised as - for the possibility of a sea angling license. The editorial page slagged off the 30 years of work that had gone before - funnily enough, mostly by the men who contributed to the magazine in its heyday....John Darling, Trevor Houseby, Clive Gammon, Mike Ladle......all founder members of BASS, and all writers for the magazine that then stabbed them and their followers in the back. What does that say about their loyalty to their readers? The very people who the work is being done to benefit.

Now there is a reply which shows very little understanding on the subect in question - I wonder just how qualified a "skipper" the writer is - to be able to make such a judgement. Does his vast experience extend to the discipline he is making allegations about. Does he practise what he preaches about safety - not if the small boat reports that are published (having passed scrutiny by the editor) are anything to go on - people in small boats out at sea without lifejackets on. Walking on deck without lifejackets in wellingtons - to weigh or deploy the anchor. Walking down narrow side decks in the same gear. There are far more accidents concerning anglers in small boats, but that, of course, is acceptable.

Stopped reading sea angler years ago. The same bunch of people doing the same boring things over and over again.

Am I bothered what Mel Russ say's. No, he is a neandertholl when it comes to modern angling.

Oh and I wonder if he could cross the Atlantic in his mahoosive 17 fter. I dont think so.

1 on the lure is worth 2 from the bait.

To be quite frank the mans a Pratt . As a journalist he should be exploring new exciting opportunities. What an opportunity he has tossed away , as well as a number of annual subscriptions , including mine. :) Night mel , sent an email to your boss incuding all the comments on here and the buisness you've tossed away with your jaundiced views.

Hear, hear, me 3 :(

The only problem is the few readers who have read the article / letter and think kayaking is dangerous because of it!. Like has been said though, repetitive mag about throwing lead weights over fields whilst trying not to create the worlds biggest birdnest

I stopped buying it many years ago. They used to run a series where you could contribute a short story and if it was published you received a rod or reel. I sent in a funny story, heard nothing from them for months during which time the editor used several of my jokes and punchlines in his own articles. Then I got a letter saying my article was unsuitable. Haven't bought it since.

So far for me NOTHING beats the feeling of sitting there with 3" of freeboard hanging onto your arcing rod while a Welsh Tope strips 150 yards off your reel then jumps clear of the water !

I've never felt more 'alive' than when the first clicks register the start of the take and the adrenaline kicks in.

I'm happy to be ignored.

There's NO WAY they're having this much fun

Does it have to be Welsh?

:D

Regards, Clive
