Still, I never use more than two rods at any one time, so at least I still have one in reserve. Has anybody got a spare top for one by any remote chance?

I'd love to help you Peter, but I love mine too much to give them up !

I use a Kamasan 11 foot 2 piece rod with a 2lb tc, a beautiful rod to use.

Another rod I use is a telescopic 3mtr Silstar 3102-300, that also is a rod I enjoy using, it says on the handle Action A5- 20,…… can anyone qualify what that means.

Usually A means tip action, 5-20 the optimum casting weight in grams. 20 grams is approx 3/4oz.

Fox do a 1.75 'carp' rod called a Controller. They say it's designed for surface fishing but it would fine for lead work up to around 2oz. It's 11ft long. I picked one up in a shop it felt nice. Retails at about £75 to £80.

I'm very tempted by a 1.75 tc rod. Like Budgie says, you'll find more choice in the barbel ranges. Loads of 1.75 rods are now called barbel rods. But that's not say that all barbel rods are 1.75. You'll find all sorts.

The best time to fish is when you have a chance.

theres also the action to think about ,my north westers are "through" action so perfect for absorbing those at the net tussels but pretty poor for distance casting ,i tend to fish along the margins with an underarm cast so they are ideal but finding a gravel bar at range beyond them with any accuracy.

Interesting that you should say that, because I have a soft actioned Daiwa VCS 112 1.25lb tc rod, which apart from the fact that a half pound chub will wrap it round to the handle, wobbles from side to side so much when you bring a fish in that it's almost impossible to net it. I always find that stiffer actioned rods give you much more control close in.
