Hummm, and this is the public body that all the politicians want to protect as sacrosanct. looks like a black hole money pit to me.

Would be better protected if they Chief Execs, had their huge pay capped as with their bonuses, and perks. 835k and he/she still gets a tenner a month for a mobile phone ?????

Now I understand why my NI contributions are as high as they are.

 

Pretty sobering thought when you think that we pay for all of that I'm clearly in the wrong profession, I should have trained to be a healthcare manager.

 

The NHS ought to learn a bit from what's happening at Tesco and Morrisons - the bosses in the know have realised that you can't be efficient if the ratio of chiefs to Indians is out of kilter.

It's interesting to see what the remuneration packages are like for CEO's in not for profit hospitals in the US.

 

Oh dear. It seems that the median salary paid for hospital CEO's in the UK is a little over half that of their US counterparts.

Of course, the UK government will also claim a much higher proportion of those salaries back in taxes than does the American IRS.

Oh dear. It seems that the median salary paid for hospital CEO's in the UK is a little over half that of their US counterparts.

Of course, the UK government will also claim a much higher proportion of those salaries back in taxes than does the American IRS.

Clearly "not for profit" is a euphemism in this case - take a large enough CEO salary and expenses out of a system and of course there will be no "profits" on paper.

errm, did I see somewhere the figure of some 500+ nhs managers, that's a heck of a lot of admin, taking up valuable space and money. They must be tripping up over each other in the clamour to fill out their expenses forms.

A better comparison than Ken L's would be NHS & VA (Veterans' Administration) hospitals since both have their operating policies spelled out by the controlling governmental body.

 

I submit to you that the CEO of an entity dealing in billions of $/£ per year is someone who could command a high salary if he/she was competent to manage the entity no matter if it was public or private.

 

I also submit to you that the NHS business model, as I understand it, of offering whatever health care to whomever needs it for a small sum of money is not long-term viable unless the government is willing and able to throw large sums of money at it each year.
