Now thats just silly jim

How can you claim that?

Lord Mullet quoted 35p a kilo for mullet. Dairy farmers get 17p a litre(kilo) for milk.

It's not simply a 'numbers game'.

Go tell the politicians that.

Our membership tend to be better informed than the membership of other *** orgainsations

Now where have we heard something similar to that before?

10 Downing Street perhaps?

Our 'lines of membership' since then(September) has gone to over 500, with another major RSA organisation having joined us, as well as several more clubs.

When submitting a response, and often when attending meetings with officials, we always advise them of our current membership, so that they have a clear idea of how many members (individuals and organisations) that SACN is directly representing.

Some years ago, the system whereby someone owning 51% of, and thus controlling, a company that inturn owned 51% of, and thus controlling, a larger company, that in turn owned 51% of, and thus controlling an even larger company......... was described as 'The unacceptable face of capitalism'.

SACN claiming to represent the views of all the members of it's 'lines of membership', is 'The unacceptable face of democracy' in my view.

'Block Vote' comes to mind!

If SACN represent 'thousands' of sea anglers and there are claims that sea anglers are numbered in 'millions', then SACN represents about one tenth of 1% of sea anglers.

Jim I have never seen SACN claim to represent the individual views of all the members of it's 'lines of membership'.

Any more than I have heard Tony Blair claim to represent the individual views of all the UK population.

Any organisation is composed of a multiplicity of views. Members of that organisation are entitled to put forward their views. From those various views comes some sort of concensus view point. Often you will struggle to find many individuals that are prepared to claim ownership of the entirety of that concensus. But they can support the overall aims and directions of the organisation and are prepared to compromise to achieve progess. That is democracy in action.

Any other position is anarchy pure and simple.

I should also add that anyone is free to join the SACN, and to influence it's direction.

Indeed I believe that more people should join, and strengthen it's position.

Who knows, if sufficient new members join it may be that SACN suddenly decides to reverse it's position on everything?

So who do DEFRA think they are dealing with?

I am glad that I have written the the various Ministers and MPs to tell them that SACN does not represent me in any way, and that I don't believe that it represents the views of the majority of people that fish in the sea, especially on the subject of sea angling licenses.

Now that would be going round in circles :D

see Leon's post above

Trying to get a straight answer out of Lord Mullet is no different that trying to get one out of any other politician.

Even a simple thing like 'How many people does SACN include in it's 'lines of membership'?

How many individual members does SACN have? Surely that's not a shade of grey!
