Hi Jon, I don't want to piddle on your matches but be careful not to chase a dream. I had the same thoughts when I left school. What are you good at (maths, writing)? What do you enjoy (tackle design, chopping down trees)? (APART from fishing!) Enjoying or even being good at fishing isn't enough to get you a job. My advice is to spend time getting a good CV together and sending it to tackle shops, tackle companies, bait companies, fisheries, whatever takes your fancy (write a fresh covering letter each time, research the company and say what you would add to the company and why you want to work there as opposed to anywhere else). Follow it up with a phone call to HR. Remember though that working in a tackle shop is still shop work, and filing in a tackle company office is still filing! I reckon you're better off finding a job you want to do either to do with fishing or not, and save fishing for your spare time. I spent many years as a proofreader and it's ruined reading for me, if you follow...

But then what do I know!

If you're a good writer, draft some articles and send them to the magazines. You certainly won't get a living wage from it, but it'll make you feel good if they get published.

Stay positive though, job hunting can be a pain but if you stay determined and know what you want anything can happen.

And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music

Jon, have you asked Loggie? He may know of someone who can help.

Jon you need to ask yourself what you can offer an employer in the world of carp fishing? with your age and therefore lack of experience realisticly all you can offer is your keeness! and sadly so could many hundreds of far more experienced people! Not being nasty or peeing on your parade just trying to be honest.

Ive seen loads of lads like yourself working for peanuts in tackle shops/helping out on fisheries etc but all thats happening in most cases are that they are being taken advantage off! Most soon click and move on to properly paid jobs.

Ive been involved in most aspects of our sport over the years ie fisheries management, guiding, tackle manufacture and design all Ive got into through knowing people or should I say (more importantly?) people knowing me.

But on a more positive note you can make dreams happen if you try hard enough.Lets get back to my first question ie what do you think you can you offer an employer other than you keeness?

And thats my "non indicative opinion"!

Jon

Why dont you look at getting a fisheries qualification a couple of colleges do them take a look at:

http://www.sparsholt.ac.uk/schwww/fish/fisherystudies.htm

http://www.hadlow.ac.uk/FurtherEducation/F...ries/index.html

Hadlow is probably nearest to you as its in Kent near Maidestone and Tonbidge. This will give you a grounding in the subject and might get you a better job than a gopher in a tackle shop.

Thres a load of colleges around which specialise some studies with fishing, im also 16 and next year im going to Penkridge Aquacultural College.

They have all the coarses, im taking lessons in fish care and learning everything i need to be a fishery owner.

And with jobs, look out for any fishing manufacturers near you, luckily by me theres a preston inovations factory and ive applied there, and surpisingly not many people apply for jobs at tackle companies the manager said.

And the beauty of it is when i have a car i can apply for a job in testing out the new tackle they make, allthough u have to take a 2 month coarse to do this as you have to learn how to avaluate the item and underststand wat you need to look out for, it'll be great getting paid for fishing.
