I happen to agree with that apart from the fact that some of the trawlers have made an issue regarding discards, so according to them it must have some effect, surly. Or have they addressed it.

At the moment those few under ten prawn trawlers , working several miles north of Whitby will have enough cod quota so as not have to discard sizeable fish.

I don't know of any small prawn trawlers working south of Hartlypool. the only other small mesh trawlers are the sole trawlers working a lot further south and I'm not aware of much of a cod bycatch by them.

 

The issue was more to do with the effects on their wallets than the cod stock.
