Salami

I like a bit of salami, (actually I like a lot of salami), but why is there no British tradition of making salami, or even anything similar?

All of the other European countries seem to make their own version so why not us?

Free to choose apart from the ones where the trust poked their nose in. Common eel. tope. Bass and sea bream. All restricted.

New for 2016 TAT are the main instigators for the demise of the u k bass charter boat industry, where they went screaming off to parliament and for the first time assisting so called angling gurus set up bass take bans with the e u using rubbish exaggerated info collected by ices from anglers, they must be very proud.

Upgrade, the door has been closed with regards to anglers being linked to the e u superstate and the failed c f p. So TAT will no longer need to pay monies to the EAA anymore as that org is no longer relevant to the u k . Goodbye to the europeon anglers alliance and pathetic restrictions from the e u.

Angling is better than politics, ban politics from angling.

Consumer of bass. where is the evidence that the u k bass stock need angling trust protection. Why won't you work with your peers instead of castigating them. They have the answer.

Recipie's for mullet stew more than welcomed.

Angling sanitation trust and kent and sussex sea anglers org delete's and blocks rsa's alternative opinion on their face book site. Although they claim to rep all.

new for 2014. where is the evidence that the south coast bream stock need the angling trust? Your campaign has no evidence. Why won't you work with your peers, the inshore under tens? As opposed to alienating them? Angling trust failed big time re bait digging, even fish legal attempted to intervene and failed, all for what, nothing.

Looks like the sea angling reps have been coerced by the ifca's to compose sea angling strategy's that the ifca's at some stage will look at drafting into legislation to manage the rsa, because they like wasting tax payers money. That's without asking the rsa btw. You know who you are..

There's nothing wrong with a British banger, I like them too.

But, if you take a raw sausage and shove it somewhere warm for six months you wouldn't want to eat it would you? Salami is only cured and not cooked at all but it can be kept unrefrigerated for months before it's eaten.

It's made in some form or another all around the world, just wondered why don't we have a tradition of making something like it.

I think I can help with this one its our mild damp climate! not cold and dry like Scandinavia who do some spanking Elk and venison Salamis (maybe spanking and salami should not be use in the same sentance) And not hot and dry Like Southern Europe.

we do cure and smoke things as you know but dont do the Air dried stuff.

As Mr FB states it's a climate thing our climate is not conducive to air cured products.

PS. Nothing better than a Italian salami (Milano), thinly sliced to cover the plate, hard boiled egg in the centre covered with mayonnaise with gherkins, tomato, prawns, olives, diced mortadella and tined sardines in olive oil and tomato placed around like a clock face and then a little paprika dusted over the mayo. FANTASTIC. The best anti-pasta in the world.

havent a clue what you said but i'm certainly anti pasta ,whats wrong with maceroni?

as for food if it doesn't contain meat in some form it isn't really food ,apples ? banana's ? rice ,vegetables are not food but animal food ! if it aint got meat or a meat derivitive in it its not food ,salami has some sort of animal in it (not sure what bit) as does black sausage so its food!

its getting a real nanny state and even the supermarkets are in on it ,if i want extra fat in my food why cant i buy it ? everyone forces you to eat "low" fat products  if fat wasnt supposed to be eaten animals wouldn't have it

hmmm i wonder what icecream tastes like with pork scratchings sprinkled on?

Er yes we do cured meats in the UK ;notably Cumbrai so if you fancy a nice piece of UK Salami or chorizo or even UK produced Biltong (one for Kleinbot), then try: http://www.shawmeats.co.uk/

Afternoon Tony,I dont think any one sugested we Cant make them,Its just that there isnt a tradition in the uk of Air dry sausages, We can now replicate the conditions needed with the help of modern knowledge. Ive had some smashing Uk Biltong Kudu, ostrich, and of course beef I think the Droeworse I had was made here as well, all good stuff but not Traditional Blighty fare like a good Curry ;) .
