Gailey gears up for new trout fishing season.

Gailey trout fishery near Cannock has been busy getting ready for new 2008 trout fishing season. Nearly 1000 rainbow and blue trout have been stocked, with a further 1000 fish being introduced to the 35 acre lake over the next few weeks. Although the fishery is open all year, March 1st is the traditional start for most anglers trout season.

Gailey is run by 12 local anglers who took over the fishery 12 months ago, they have transformed the 30 year old fishery, adding new boats, new casting platforms and numerous other improvements making it one of the most improved trout waters of 2007.

Peter Davies one of the fishermen helps who run Gailey said “ Our first year has been a real learning curve, but we must be doing something right, because season ticket and day ticket sales doubled last season. We spent a lot of money on improving facilities at Gailey, this year our plan is to increase the stocking policy budget at the water with rainbow, blue and brown trout from one and half pound up to specimen ten pounders and bigger being stocked. We are also introducing some extra day ticket price options with a 6 fish limit day ticket only £30 or a 4 fish limit at £25 whilst still retaining the £15 (2 fish) ticket”. Peter explained our motto is “Run by anglers for anglers” and we aim to offer anglers the best value trout fishing anywhere”.
