Hola España

The time has come to move on.

Having the large old house and the big garden, even the lake, has been fun but it is just too much work now.

I spend more time on a tractor every week than the local farmer.

My daughter has recently bought her first house in Spain so the powers that be have decided that is where we should go next.

We have had a very enjoyable six years in France and there are many thing about France that I will miss. The calm peaceful ambiance, the sense of order and the politeness in particular. Many expats liken it to the UK of past years and in a way they are right. Strangers do greet you in the street, shopkeepers are unfailingly polite. We can and often do go out without locking the doors. Much to be said for it. Unfortunately what first attracted us to the property has become a bit of a liability and I just don't need it any more. We are swapping a 10000M2 garden for 800M2 and a lake for a swimming pool. Six bedrooms for three and no grass to cut.

We are moving to a village in the mountains about 10mins inland from Mojacar in Almeria, somewhere we have spent a lot of time in the past and somewhere that we had always planned to retire to.

The adventure continues

Dont mistake city and town folks here as the norm ,us villagers do talk and the shopkeep even if they are not of this country are pleasant (makes sense if your living depends on it) the pub landlord and "the worst landlady in the country" have moved on so its back to 1947 again.

My old boss lived in the hills opposite menerbes for many years but caught the golf disease so moved to spain as their facilities for golf were far better than in southern france ,within a year he was back in france "to many ****ing english" was his reason not to stay in spain

Ps we left our door unlocked for a fortnight and all was well ,we went on holiday and discovered on our return the lock had broken but generally leaving doors open is fine but it makes sense to lock them at night as the highway man is getting to old to ride his horse.

Pretty quiet here to you can just with the wind in the right direction hear a whisper of the A31 and out on hankley common its unchanged since the bronze age and the loudest noise will be some fricking cuckoo spoiling the place

Believe NOTHING anyones says or writes unless you witness it yourself and even then your eyes can deceive you

None of this "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" crap it just means i have at least two enemies!

There is only one opinion i listen to ,its mine and its ALWAYS right even when its wrong
