I have been using an old Merc E Class estate as a fishing / picking up stuff load lugger.

A head gasket problem means that I am looking for a replacement and I like the idea of a Saab.

Any one got one, had one. loves them. hates them or knows what to look out for?

I've got one, a 2002 Saab 9-5 Aero. 250bhp 2.3 turbo. I like it. It's very comfortable, quiet, spacious, well equipped, shifts a bit for a big old barge and isn't too bad on fuel. Will do almost 40mpg on a motorway run @70mph, and about 29-30mpg day to day. Mine is a manual, automatics are noticeably less economical, and if you start using the performance, you get what you'd expect!

 

It's not exactly fun, it's a large front drive estate car, but it's very effective. Loads of poke for overtaking. Excellent seats. If you get the optional uprated hifi, that's good.

 

It's just cost me a few quid, it's got to that "sort it out or chuck it away" point and I decided to sort it out. So it's had a full service, front and rear pads and discs, a track rod end, a new Direct Ignition Cassette, four new tyres and the wheels refurbed. Which cost more than it's worth, but if I bought a new one it could need those jobs doing. It still needs a headlight relay replacing and a scabby panel respraying (looks like it's had a crappy repair at some point in the past).
