My dvd-cd writeable dodah has stopped working, cannot get the drawer to eject. Is it time for a new one, could i use an external type please ?

The external ones are fine if you choose one that does what you want (dvd probably twin layer etc),they usually use two usb ports or some have a connector for a psu

Or just put a new one back inside its just two connectors and a few screws

The drawers can jam if you look carefully theres a tiny hole on the front stick a paperclip in it and press hard and it will open ,you can see the hole clearly in the second photo ,a jolly good hoovering may cure the problem you could knit a jumper with the fluff that is in my sisters machine !

Open the paper-clip out first! :)
