Abu Garcia 506 MkII or 706 Reel Advice

I'll happily use my old 506's for trotting for most stuff - the line does bed down a bit especially if you pick up a rogue chub. But a clean trot through will sort it. The trick is to find a match spool and/or load the reel with no more than 100yds of line.

When it's a bit windy I will also happily use my original Abuv 506 for long trotting for smaller fish up to around 3lb but it does tend to bed in after landing a heavy-ish fish; this is annoying but quite simple to sort with a dummy cast. I've always used 506M spools with the chenille lining on my 506 to prevent line going around the base of the spool plus I only load around 50 mtrs of line on it.

I much prefer to use either a centrepin or a fixed spool reel rather than a closed face reel for trotting when it's not windy or gusty though.

Happiness is Fish shaped (it used to be woman shaped but the wife is getting on a bit now)
