Mistakes

We all make mistakes, sometimes big, sometimes unimportant.

I made a very big mistake in June of last year when I left France to live in Spain.

We had been coming here for holidays for 30 years and when my Daughter bought a place here it seemed a realistic proposition.

For a number of reasons it hasn't worked as we hoped and we are now looking to return to France.

Thankfully we did have concerns in coming to Spain so rather than buy a house straight away we rented a house for a year, so we have nothing to hold us up and we are house hunting in France again.

This time it will be in the south, closer to the Spanish border and I am sure that a lake or river will figure in the decision in some way.

Thanks Phone

I am looking forward to it.

I've heard that buying a property in Spain can be a real cauchemar with many pitfalls for the unwary or uninitiated.

The problem isn't what people don't know, it's what they know that just ain't so.

Not something to go into with your eyes closed, but if you take basic precautions like using a proper solicitor and doing the appropriate searches it is OK.

Unfortunately, many people don't

A great number of ex pats have fallen foul of dodgy spanish solicitors ,just how much reaerch can you do if an illegal group of houses comes on the market ,they all get sold then the problems crop up years later ,until they do it all looks pukka.

But i do agree using your eyes then wallet before brain is rampant ,i for one will never get caught out buying a dodgy foreign house

The system here isnt faultless the sale of our tied cottage was held up because the search done didnt reveal a strip of land in front of the entrance and part of the garden wasnt actually the owners ,the new buyers search people were more thorough and found that out!

The old owner my boss had to track down the owner of that strip of land (not living in this country) and pay through the nose to buy it so the house legally could access its drive

I wonder if a ramp would get around it? Not my problem though but its how i would have reacted if the owner had become a problem but i guess he owned the sky over it as well?

We almost went to france but the thought of paying bribes to the mayor got my back up

Well, if you hadn't tried it you'd always be wondering and you left the door open to move back to France so not such a big mistake, you did it exactly the right way. Enjoy the house hunting I'd say.

It's never a 'six', let's put it back
