French elections

"I have to laugh at your overactive imagination". I don't believe I've expressed an opinion either way.

However, should she become president of France, the EU fall apart all the quicker - starting with the empty threats of Juncker and his cronies - and that can only be a good thing for the UK.

How exactly? :g:

Radical Islamists don't want appeasement, they want war. Anything that polarises positions between them and the West is all good for them. They don't want moderate Muslims siding with Western society, they want "us and them". An FN victory would be fine by them.

Theres more people youtube watching than any main stream media so i guess now main stream media aint that main.the bbc was a fairly respected (worldwide as well) news programme maker but now its just a government mouthpiece and lost any credence it used to have, time for it and the tv tax to go

Unfortunately facebook is going the same way ,i get rather **** off getting rid of 'suggestions' and what people are talking about boxes when i really only want to see my family ,and yes i have made it difficult for it to happen but when you join anything the small print gets round most of what you want and insists what it wants!

Yes i could just get rid of it but its handy for using messenger

Best to remember anything you see or hear second hand is an opinion and opinion is in the hands of those that pay for it

If the bbc say something pop over to france24 ,DW ,aljazeera or any of the news channels and balance it with their opinion and somewhere in between you may get a thread of reality

I wonder how many votes extra pen would get if she promised autonomy to the Basque region ? Its pretty insignificant as a region compared to the rest so little to lose.

Trouble is the Separatist's have gone a bit quiet lately perhaps splitting france along the line from switzerland to the bay of biscay would be fun the top half can have ties with the EU and the bottom none ,france needs a war so they can accidentally thin out some of the problamatic foreigners infesting it,trouble is historically when they get the smallest amount of strife half the population flees here so we end up with more dross

I see Pen is now pretending that she is not connected to FN.

The fact is that the FN brand is toxic to many French people. They may have attempted to move away from (or at least give the impression of having moved away from) the anti-Semitic/racist party of her father but the connection is still there.

I can't see her being trusted enough to form a Government.

After the unpopularity of Francoise Hollande's socialist government a centrist candidate was always going to be popular.

As someone who will be living there from June I hope that Macron gets elected and proves to be a non-controversial stabilizing influence.

I certainly would not want to see France even contemplating leaving the EU.

No matter that her tenure as leader of FN changed the party beyond all recognition. No matter that she consistently expleles racists. No matter that she encourages people to go read FNs non-racist manifesto. No matter that she has set her role as leader of FN to one side and publicly proclaimed that she is running to represent all French people. And no mater that she won majority support in several largely non-white territories....

Her factory visit this week brilliantly outmanouvered Macron and left him foundering - she was well received in Marseilles too.

I agree that she has gone a long way to change the image of the party, but scratch below the surface and it is the same party.

The question is, is she fit to run the country? In my opinion, no. I feel the same way about any politician with extreme views, right or left.

I do not think that she could represent all viewpoints in France.

Politics and religion have a lot in common.

Regardless of the evidence, people refuse to change their core beliefs.

I've said that often enough on another topic. Brexit is their new Jerusalem and Maggie Mae is the Latter Day Madonna. Their arguments are similar too, as is their deliberate "misunderstanding" of the burden of proof and their inability to make the distinction between belief and knowledge.

Show me a political party whose policies are evidence driven and I might vote for them at every election.

Of course, you would expect trump to be supportive of Le Pen, they have a lot in common. They both had overtly racist fathers, and they both came second in an election. ;)
