2017 "gun of the year" NRA Conven

Phone

Recommended Posts

All,

Ohh, I almost forgot. With the President addressing the Convention all guns had to be removed and everyone had to be scanned to be sure they were not "concealed carry" . Probably more than 20,000 guns had to be secured for a couple hours.

I think it is ironical as the President is going to speak on our "Right to Carry".

EDIT: For the uninformed rookie the M107A1 is a .50 cal. But everyone knows that - Right??

Is it just me or does that have a very short barrel for a weapon who's primary role would be sniping men and material from distance?

Or maybe the shorter barrel is to make it easier to manoeuvre for room clearance.........

Edit. Just checked and it must be photographic distortion because it has a 29" Barrel.

All,

Something more modest now that I have you drooling. A gentleman's gun (my personal choice).

45 long colt is slightly more powerful than the .357. This is a duel purpose gun as it accommodates .410 shotgun ammo.

Ken,

Sorry, I was typing over you.

I really don't know much about this weapon. It was "improved" this year bringing the overall weight below 5 lbs. Since it is a semi-automatic I seriously doubt it is tagged as a "sniper" gun. There will be many owners but few who can control the weapon after the first round. I'm sure it has some sort of dampener but .50 cal is just ridiculous. It will be handy if you want to bust a car engine block on the other side of two brick walls I guess.

It is a long distance sniping weapon and is also an anti material rifle (it's used against relatively soft skinned non human targets, planes on the ground etc)

The 50s use for sniping at long range was pioneered by Gunnery Sergeant Carlos Hathcock in 1967 when he set the record for the longest confirmed kill shot of 2500 yards( The current record is 2707 yards by Corporal of the Horse Craig Harrison using an accuracy arms L115A3 chambered for .338 lapua magnum, a truly remarkable shot when you consider that it is nearly 1000 yards further than the recommended maximum accurate range for that round).

You do get a few semi automatic sniping rifles of which the barrett is one and the h&k psg1 is another.

I like this and the mini tommy gun version ,not a lot of use for hitting something far off (or far near) but looks like fun

I can't find any reference to the Barrett being the NRA's "gun of the year" for this or any other year but it would be interesting if they did actually give an award to a weapon with no legitimate hunting or self/home defence application.

Ken,

The photo and comment was from a "political" site. It would have just happened maybe last Thursday(?)

Edit: Although I started the thread I know very little about this sort of thing. Ask Snakey
