Yeah but the plague is far too indiscriminate and hard to control, reintroduction of bears & wolves etc would cull the slower and more stupid members of the population.

If that's what you wanted, then surely the reintroduction of something akin to 'the plague' would be more effective. It would also limit the collateral damage to the flora and fauna, while still "culling the herd".

Where's the fun in that?

Native but long extinct that I'd like to see back one day - Large Copper Butterfly, and Orange Spotted Emerald Dragonfly.

 

Large Copper last seen in 1927 and the Orange Spotted Emerald in 1963.
