No petrol and diesel cars by 2040

Is this a PR stunt no new petrol or diesel cars by 2040 what about wagons the govement haven't mentioned about the infrastructure investment charging points can the national grid cope at peak times now if you want tow a caravan your going to need some battery power there are many many questions to anser .

Theres fuel cell technology thats within grasp ,hydrogen is easy to install in forecourts dangerous but feasible .

If peak oil was already here i guess it would be earlier

Perhaps exhaust filters are the way forward in diesels but i remember those catalytic converters were going to save the world but it was balony in petrol cars

 

Farnham is always whining about polution with traffic coming through it but it hasnt dawned on the morons in charge a simple traffic light change will stop most of it ,there is no right turn on the byepass so traffic has to come through the town to go to hindhead and the A3 ,that especially includes lorries the other routes involve a low bridge or the other end a weight restricted bridge so they come through town its the only option if they miss the Alton route

The seem to be happy getting incentives to allow industrial parks but it seems ubove their understanding lorries need to deliver stuff to them !

 

I would ban outboard engines tomorrow and heavily restrict marine engines until they dont put their exhausts directly into the water ,unless their exhausts are completly clean then ban them i suspect if it were on the cards mr dyson would be only to happy to think something up

Pie in the sky crap IMHO. It would mean a complete new industry, Car part manufacturers would be up in arms having to remodel/rebuild new car part production facilities, blah blah blah.

The suply chain would suffer, jobs would be lost to robots, after all robots can do the work of a half dozen operatives on the production line.

We already have robots ,in the fifties it was said man would have more free time in the future now those on the dole because robots do their job have lots lol

Electric cars are already here, what is needed is better storage/batteries and that is happening.

Cars are already being built by robots and that will increase.

Making bodywork and components out of heavy steel will be replaced with lightweight composites and glue.

By 2040 I am sure that cars will have improved beyond measure, I am just sorry that I won't be around to see and drive them.

23 years ago, in the 90's, the first practical electric cars since the petrol engine killed them off in the early 20th century were being built. They were slow, short of range, hideously expensive.

 

15 years ago, people were buying these in the UK.

 

 

Slow, ugly electric deathtraps with no range.

 

Now you can buy one of these;

 

 

Or even one of these (the thing Richard Hammond nearly killed himself in recently)

 

 

Given another 23 years of development, is anyone even going to want a petrol or diesel car?

Then watch a huge surge in home or outside charging to recoup the lost revinue ,not hard to do with a bit of thought government supplied powerpoints in every home (no different to mandatory water meters we see coming now) and a special type of encoded electric only that socket can provide to plug in your car that can only charge if the meter allows it

 

Not far fetched i used to safety test in surrey satellites and they had a super smoothed 240v supply only special plugs could fit it and only specialised equiptment could use it ,this was in 1995

I appears it had a special pulse just before the wave that triggered a electric gate to open in the machine to allow it to use the electric ,a change of plug and plugging it into a normal supply would do nothing

 

No big deal if you look at technolgy in the last 20 years its greatly changed so no doubt in the future far faster changes because of it

 

Talking of technology think deeply before getting a smart meter ,these are two way systems not one way ,your bill will never change as you pay for what you use but i predict you will pay more in electric because of them ,you may get a bit free but the technology allows the supplier to instruct your meter to charge more instantly,i can see peak time electric becoming far more expensive ,i will stick with my dumb one thanks

Unfortunatly if oil disapeared tomorrow even steam is now impossible to use

In the past for hundreds of years there were small ponds at the roadside to water horses and livestock going to market and it was mandatory to keep them in good condition and the streams and gulleys feeding them ,steam engines used them but now most are gone so we are buggered unless piped water is available every few miles ,theres hydrants but technically its illegal to use them without a abstraction licence ,a bit of tax as well to get lost revinue back to consider

Trucks are a harder problem to solve, which is probably why the government has only made an announcement about cars and vans, but they are being worked on;
