Carp for a change

Recommended Posts

I've been fishing a small river for barbel for the last few weeks, and I needed a brief change of venue; so I decided to have a lazy evening session on my local estate lake behind a couple of Carp rods chasing some Carp for a change.

It was quite a warm day with quite a lot of floating algae beginning to show and I chose to fish tight up to the northwestern corner of one of the islands where it was a little deeper and in the lee of the prevailing winds plus it also gets a lot of shade from the overhanging trees and bushes on the island during the day plus it's also the furthest swim from the car park which can't be a bad thing.

I caught four Carp ranging from around 6lb (see photo) up to one of around 14 pounds (see 2nd photo) so nothing humongous.

I enjoyed myself emmensly and now I feel refreshed and just can't wait to get back on my local stream catching Barbel again.

Boldbear,

Great fishing pictures. I especially like the common. When I was a child (50's) we thought mirrors were "sick" fish. 70 year later that is still the first thing that comes to my mind when I catch a mirror. We had VERY few mirrors in the US in those days.

Norma and I had a few hours at a woodland pool this morning. Fished a big lob under a waggler. Hoped for a decent perch, but got just one bite - a ten pound carp. As she netted it for me Norma said "That's ten pounds" Weighed 11-12 in the net, and my wet net weighs just 1-12. So who needs a spring balance.

Took a picture of each side and remembered a former angler who was notorious for doing that, then changing his jacket, taking two more pics, and then claiming four fish in the club "total season specimen catch" competition  He was a bit of a joke at the club, as another trick he had for roving competitions was multiple keep nets concealed along the river which he had filled during the previous few days. An absolute rogue who would rather win by chicanery than by fair means.

BTW Is there any easy way to post photos, or do we now have to use a a third party ?. I note that one that used to be free now wants money. Part of the decline in this forum stems from the demise of the photo facility. How much would it cost to reinstate a direct photo facility ?

Nice pics BB

I used to use the photo hoster that is no longer free (photobucket) but I now use 'postimage' which is another image hoster but which is still free and is very easy to use.

I do have a few pics in the AnglersNet photo gallery which I added a long time ago but I haven't tried uploading any photos to it for a long while
